This 2-day short Tanzania safari holiday explores two of the Top Tanzania safari destinations in the Northern Circuit – Lake Manyara National Park where lions climb trees and baboon troops thrive and the Ngorongoro Crater home to one of the highest concentrations of African wildlife.
Beginning and ending in Arusha, the tour heads to Lake Manyara National Park located 130 km away (3 hours’ drive) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. On entering the park, the road takes us through a lush jungle-like forest, home to baboons and monkeys, before opening on to a grassy floodplain.
Large Buffaloes, Wildebeest, Giraffes and herds of Zebra congregate on the grassy plains. Further inland the legendary tree-climbing lions and elephant can be found in a narrow belt of woodland. The park is also home to large troops of big baboons, which are commonly sighted.
Other wildlife inhabiting the park in abundance, includes Monkey, Jackal, Mongoose, Hyena, Hyrax, Cheetah, Hippo, Warthog, Giraffe Duiker, Waterbuck and Impala.
Over 400 bird species are found here, which includes many thousands of lesser Flamingo’s, greater Flamingos, Pelican, yellow-billed stork and white-necked cormorant. After lunch, we enjoy some game viewing in the afternoon, before heading to our lodge/ hotel in or around Lake Manyara National Park.

The following morning, we leave Lake Manyara Park and drive through the Great Rift Valley heading for Ngorongoro Crater (2 hours’ drive/ 80 km) where we descend the steep crater walls to explore this wilderness teeming with wildlife.
The Big 5 may be found at Ngorongoro Crater and it boasts one of the highest concentration of lions in the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro is a huge caldera 18 km in diameter with walls as high as 600 meters.
The fertile crater supports a variety of wildlife, including elephants, monkeys, hyena, jackal and herds of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and giant African elephants, in diverse habitats.
We picnic in the crater and after an exciting day of game viewing, we leave the Ngorongoro Crater and travel through some amazing Tanzanian landscapes, on our way to Arusha where our memorable, short wildlife safari ends.

Safari Itinerary in Detail
Day 1: Arusha – Drive to Lake Manyara National Park
0800 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha we meet our professional tour guide/ driver who will deliver a short safari info briefing, after which, we travel to the Lake Manyara National Park.
The drive from Arusha to Lake Manyara takes about 2 ½ hours and we shall cover about 130 kilometers.
1100 Hours: We arrive at the park and proceed on a game drive. The diverse habitats of Lake Manyara National Park range from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides.
The park is home to a large concentration of elephants, hippos, zebras, giraffes, baboons, gazelles, and tree-climbing lions.
1300 Hours: We enjoy our packed lunch boxes at one of the picnic sites. Later proceed for another game drive.
Among the bird population, flamingos are the most seen, but others include pelicans, Egyptian geese, cormorants, storks, Vulture, Eagles, swifts, and swallows, etc.
1800 Hours: We arrive at our accommodations for the night.

Day 2: Lake Manyara – Drive to The Ngorongoro Crater – Game Drive – Drive to Arusha
0800 Hours: After breakfast drive to Ngorongoro Crater. The driving distance is only 80 Kilometers (2 Hours). The crater is one of the largest intact volcanic calderas in the world, the crater floor offers game viewing to a homely permanent population of more than 30 000 animals, and is one of the only places in Africa.
Large grazing animals such as wildebeest, buffalo, gazelle, and zebra that depend on the open grasslands in the crater.
The crater has the black-maned lion, leopard, and hyena. The elephant found are the lone males. The Fever Tree forests shelter monkeys, bushbuck and waterbuck, and the few black rhinos that have taken refuge here.
A soda lake attracts water birds, including flamingo’s, and is a favorite place for predators to make their kill. Wildly beautiful as it is, it is not surprising that Ngorongoro Crater has been called a Garden of Eden. Enjoy a full-day game drive on the crater floor.
1300 Hours: After lunch proceed on a game drive en-route as you ascend to the crater rim.
1530 Hours: Drive back to Arusha.
1800 Hours: Arrive back in Arusha and drop you off at your hotel/ residence
