Day 1: Mombasa to Tsavo West (Game Drive & Mzima Springs) 

0500 Hours – 0530 Hours: Pick up from your Mombasa/Diani hotel and drive toward Tsavo West National Park
0930 Hours  – 1000 Hours: Arrive at the park gate, complete registration, and start your first game drive heading toward your lodge/camp
1000 Hours – 1230 Hours: Game drive searching for lions, rhinos, and herds of “red” elephants, passing through diverse volcanic scenery
1300 Hours – 1500 Hours: Check-in, lunch, and a short break/relaxation at the lodge
1530 Hours – 1600 Hours: Afternoon game drive. The highlight is the Mzima Springs, where you can see hippos and crocodiles from an underwater observatory.
1630 Hours: Return to the lodge/camp for dinner and overnight 

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Return to Mombasa

0600 Hours – 0630 Hours: Early morning wake-up and light breakfast

0930 Hours – 1030 Hours: Return to the lodge for a full breakfast and check out

2 Days 1 Night Mombasa Tsavo West National Park Safari is an exciting overnight safari that begins and ends in Mombasa, Kenya.

This 2-day, 1-night safari from Mombasa to Tsavo West National Park highlights stunning volcanic landscapes, the underwater hippos of Mzima Springs, and the Shetani lava flow.

Key experiences include game drives to spot “Big Five” wildlife—specifically red elephants—and dramatic views from Poachers’ Lookout, usually combined with a stay at a scenic lodge.

Your adventure safari includes the company of a professional safari driver guide, a private safari vehicle with a pop-up roof for easy game viewing, and a night at a luxury or budget safari hotel/ camp of your choice.

Tsavo West National Park is situated west of its sister, Tsavo East National Park, and is approximately 188 km west of Mombasa.  The Park covers 7065 km².

The temperature remains the same throughout the year, at 27-31°C (81-88°F) during the day and 22-24°C (72-75°F) at night. Humidity is high from December through April.

The major tourist attractions at Tsavo West National Park include safari tours to see the “Big 5” African animals (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and rhino). Other animals in the park include giraffe, hippo, cheetah, hartebeest, Hunter’s hartebeest, several species of shrew and rat, Grevy’s zebra, and wild dogs.

Mzima Springs is at the north end of Tsavo West. Here, one can watch hippos bathing underwater. Lake Jipe attracts a lot of wildlife and is a good place for bird watching.

Bird-watching safaris are best between October and January and feature many migratory birds, including African skimmers, red and yellow bishops, goshawks, buffalo weavers, and palm nut vultures, to name a few.

Tsavo West National Park has over 500 bird species recorded, including ostriches, kestrels, buzzards, starlings, weavers, kingfishers, hornbills, secretary birds, and herons.

The park also has Caves and Lava Flows to explore. Accommodation found in the park includes luxury lodges, camps, hotels, campsites, guesthouses, and Bandas.

Day 2: Tsavo West National Park – Drive to Mombasa

Tsavo West National Park is an all-year-round destination. After an early wake-up call, a morning game drive follows. Major wildlife attractions include elephant, rhino, hippo, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, and diverse plant and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler.

Wildlife includes Leopard, Cheetahs, Wild dogs, Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant, Giraffes, Zebra, Lion, Crocodiles, Mongoose, Hyrax, Dik-dik, Lesser Kudu, and Nocturnal Porcupine. Prolific bird life features 600 species. After breakfast or early lunch, check out and drive back to Mombasa arriving late in the evening.
