Ruaha National Park Tanzania

This Private 2-day Fly-in Safari takes you on an unusual journey south to Ruaha National Park, offering a  wildlife experience away from the crowds. The tour could begin from Dar-es-salaam or Zanzibar. Ruaha National Park is located 600 kilometers to the west of Dar-es-salaam.

The next few days are set aside for exploring the spectacular landscapes of Ruaha National Park in search of wildlife and birds. Due to its isolated location, Ruaha is a less-explored and often overlooked gem with a truly wild and undisturbed feeling.

Typically, our 2-day fly-in Ruaha safari package will include flights via a small Cessna or Caravan aircraft from the Dar-es-salaam or Zanzibar airport where you first land – and the journey across beautiful landscapes on a tiny plane is a unique experience in itself. You’ll head out to Ruaha National Park to enjoy some awesome views from the air on the way.

Upon arrival in Ruaha National Park, you’ll be met by a representative from your camp or lodge for a short transfer to your accommodation to get settled in and later go for a game drive and fun activities. On day two you will enjoy a game drive then later, you’ll transfer back to the airstrip by light aircraft, and fly back to Dar-es-salaam, Zanzibar, or to another camp on your itinerary, anywhere in Tanzania!

Ruaha National Park is one of Tanzania’s largest national parks, covering about 20 226 km² (7,809 mi²) of grassy plains and gentle hills sprinkled with acacia and baobab trees. Here, in this remote Tanzanian wilderness area, we escape the bustle and noise of modern life, tuning into the rhythms of the unspoiled African bush.

Ruaha is a predator hotspot, hosting one of the world’s largest lion populations and one of the few sizeable populations of cheetahs in East Africa. The national park is also home to one of Africa’s largest populations of endangered African wild dogs, numerous leopards, and hyenas.

In addition to impressive carnivore sightings, we are sure to see elephants on our 4×4 game drives in Ruaha, which hosts over 10000 African elephants. We are also likely to see Cape buffalos as Ruaha hosts large herds of this member of the Big Five, along with plenty of giraffes, zebras, hippos, impalas, and other antelopes.

Ruaha is situated where eastern and southern vegetation zones meet, resulting in an unusually high diversity of plant and animal species, including rare antelope species. Both greater and lesser kudu are found here, as well as sable and roan antelopes, along with more common species such as bushbuck, eland, and Grant’s gazelle.

Ruaha National Park Tanzania Highlights | What to Do and See

Bird Watching: Ruaha is one of the Tanzania birds’ paradise with more than 571 species and some of them are known to be migrants from within and outside Africa. Ruaha red-billed hornbill is dominant in the area.

Game Drives: With comfy custom-built open game drive vehicles which are perfect for traversing the beautiful and varied habitats of the park. Game drives are the best way to get up close to the multitude of wildlife that calls Ruaha home; big-maned lions, great herds of elephants, the handsome greater kudu, Sable, and Roan antelope.

Other animals include wild dogs, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, elands, impala, bat-eared foxes and Jackals, crocodiles, poisonous and non-poisonous snakes, monitor lizards, agama lizards, and frogs.

Walking safari: Between drives, you can also get out on foot.  Being on your own two pegs gives you a totally different experience. Walking gives you an appreciation of the tranquility, complexity, and vastness of the African wilderness and we think it’s one of the best things you can do on safari.

Being in the company of a trained and experienced guide both ensures your safety and opens the door to the wonders of our natural surroundings.

Bush Meals Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner: We’re great fans of “going out” for breakfast and enjoying a sundowner in a beautiful spot. These things are rare treats on the safari day and something that you wouldn’t do back home, which frankly is the only reason you need for doing them!
