It is a wildlife conservancy at the heart of Kenya’s Tana Delta. One of the only places in Africa with turtles, lions, dolphins, and elephants on a beach!
Kipini Wildlife Conservancy is located along Kenya’s coast, approximately 170 km north of Malindi by road. Kipini Conservancy Birds include Black-and-white Flycatcher, Green Tinkerbird, Pallid Honeyguide, African Crake, Southern Banded Snake Eagle, and Saddle-billed Stork, amongst others.
This private coastal conservancy is an important habitat for rare and endangered trees and animals such as elephant, African buffalo, hippopotamus, reticulated giraffe, Burchell’s zebra, hirola, waterbuck, coastal topi, lesser kudu, gerenuk, desert warthog, and eland, among others.
Large carnivore species found in the area include lions, spotted hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, and hunting dogs. The area also hosts marsh mongooses, small primates (vervets, black-and-white colobus, and Blue Sykes monkeys), various amphibians, and reptiles. 203 species of birds have been registered in the area, including a healthy population of ostriches.
Among the trees found in the conservancy are Dume palms, Triclulia Emetia, Mvule, Terminalia, black palms, and elephant trees. In addition, there is a diversity of marine life, including more than 1,000 coral fish and turtles. Several species of whales and dolphins, including the globally threatened dugong, are also available.
