Beginning and ending in Arusha, Tanzania, this affordable 2-day road Safari is ideal for travelers with a limited time and budget in East Africa!
This short tour combines two of Tanzania’s most breath-taking safari destinations – Tarangire National Park, home to one of Tanzania’s largest Elephant populations and considered one of the most beautiful game reserves in Tanzania and the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, hosting Africa’s Big Five and an abundance of other wildlife.
This wildlife adventure starts from Arusha and sets off southwest toward our first Tanzanian game viewing destination, Tarangire National Park. Located about 118 kilometers (75 miles) from Arusha, Tarangire is home to a large variety of wildlife.
Tarangire Park hosts one of the largest Elephant populations in Tanzania and is dotted with baobab and acacia thorn trees. It is also home to various big cats including Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs, as well as tree climbing Pythons.
Other wildlife inhabiting the game park include many Giraffes, Buffalos, Zebras, Wildebeest, Thompson’s Gazelle, greater and Lesser Kudu, Eland, Leopard, and Cheetah. After lunch at a beautiful picnic site, we depart the park with a game drive en-route to Lake Manyara/ Karatu area for overnight.
Accommodation options include; Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge, Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge, Escarpment Lodge, Kirurumu Manyara, Lake Manyara Kilimamoja and Manyara Wildlife Safari Camp.
The following day we depart with breakfast boxes and take a lovely drive admiring the scenic landscapes of northern Tanzania as we travel to our next safari destination – the world famous Ngorongoro Crater, also known as Africa’s Garden of Eden.
We descend the steep crater walls to explore this wilderness teeming with wildlife. The Big 5 may be found at Ngorongoro Crater and it boasts one of the highest concentration of Lions in the world.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro is a huge caldera 18 km in diameter with walls as high as 600 meters. The fertile crater supports a variety of wildlife, including Elephants, Monkeys, Hyena, Jackal and herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo and other Antelope species, in diverse habitats.
We picnic in the crater and after an exciting day of game viewing, we leave the Ngorongoro Crater and travel through some amazing Tanzanian landscapes as we return to Arusha where our fantastic 2-day Tanzania short Safari to the Northern Safari Circuit ends.

Day 1: Arusha – Drive to Tarangire National Park
0800 Hours: After breakfast in Arusha or Moshi, depart by road to Tarangire Park with packed lunch for full-day game viewing.
Tarangire is a classic dry season reserve: in the rains, the game disperses into the Maasai Steppe but as the landscape dries the wildlife returns, drawn to the Tarangire River.
Large populations of Wildebeest, Zebra, Buffalo, Giraffe, Eland, Impala, and Warthog all go in search of water. Lion and Hyena follow accordingly. Perhaps most impressive are the large herds of Elephants that congregate along the riverbanks – it is sometimes possible to see over 500 in a day.
There are some localized Antelope species, such as the fringe-eared Oryx and Gerenuk, and plenty of colorful birdlife. Yellow-billed and saddle-billed storks are often found in the river and orange-bellied parrots and red-and-yellow barbets in the acacia woodland.
1300 Hours: After lunch at a beautiful picnic site we depart the park with a game drive en-route to Lake Manyara/ Karatu area overnight.

Day 2: Lake Manyara/ Karatu – Drive to Ngorongoro Crater – Drive to Arusha
0600 Hours: Depart with your breakfast boxes and take a lovely drive take to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater.
Descend into the crater and spend the morning hours tracking animals. This magnificent natural amphitheater is said to have the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa, including a high density of lions and thousands of flamingos.
The ever-changing mood of this great amphitheater will hold our attention every second.
1300 Hours: After a late lunch at the hippo picnic site we proceed on another game drive en-route back to Arusha.
1830 Hours: Arrive back in Arusha.
