3 Days Larsens Camp Samburu Flying Safari Package takes you to Kenya’s famous Samburu National Reserve. Your accommodations are at the Larsens Tented Camp – a small exclusive camp nestled in the lush lawns on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro, a river in Kenya’s famous Samburu National Reserve.

The camp is approximately 320 km north of Nairobi, on the border of the old Northern Frontier Province. The camp is named after Erik Ole Larsen, a legendary Dane credited with defining the luxury safari under canvas.

Larsens Tented Camp is designed in a contemporary safari style; luxury is blended with the stunning surroundings of the spectacular Samburu Game Reserve.

Larsen’s camp offers 20 free-standing luxurious tented accommodations each with a private balcony. All tents are discreetly sited along the west bank of the Uaso Nyiro River with the result that the tents are bathed with light at sunrise.

Each tent stands on a plinth of natural stone and all have en suite private bathrooms stocked with a range of Molton Brown toiletries, flushing toilets, constant hot water, and 24-hour electricity (240 volts). Each tent features 1 king or 2 twin beds designed in a chic safari style.

Day 1: Nairobi Fly to Samburu Game Reserve

0700 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel in Nairobi, we transfer to Wilson Airport Nairobi for your scheduled flight to the Samburu National Reserve.

0830 Hours: Depart on a scheduled flight to the Samburu National Reserve. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River.

0955 Hours: Arrive in Samburu National Reserve at an airstrip followed by a transfer to you to your lodge/ camp with a short safari game drive en route.

1230 Hours: Check-in at the hotel and lunch follows. Later relax and explore the camps/ lodge grounds. 

1500 Hours: Enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate before the afternoon safari drive. 

1530 Hours: Depart for the afternoon game drive. Animals found in Samburu, namely: cheetahs, lions, leopards, impalas, buffalo, hippos, and dik-diks, as well as the native gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and Beisa Oryx.

You are guaranteed to see most animals during the dry season as they converge at the Usaso Nyiro River, their main source of water during the long dry weather. Elephants are also spotted during this time, and you can watch the Nile crocodiles swim in the river.

1830 Hours: Return back to your camp/ lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Full Day in Samburu Game Reserve

This full day in the Samburu Game Reserve will be spent searching for the big five, the Samburu five and observing the vast unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game viewing drives.

Samburu game reserve is renowned for its rare species of animals unique to the park, namely: the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and Beisa onyx.

The elusive Kenya leopard is often known to visit the park, especially in the evenings. Other Kenyan wildlife present in the park includes cheetahs and lions, as well as elephants, buffalo and hippos.

Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at Samburu National Reserve, which boasts over 350 different species of birds including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and others.

A camel-back safari is a speciality in Samburu, as well as a cultural visit to the Samburu people who depend on their cattle, goat, sheep and donkey, can be arranged.

Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve – Fly to Nairobi City

0630 Hours: Depart for an early morning game drive. Game viewing includes elephants, hippos, lions, leopards and cheetahs.

0830 Hours: Return to the lodge/ Camp for breakfast.

1045 Hours: Transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Nairobi

1120 Hours: Your flight from Samburu to Nairobi departs.

1305 Hours: Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to your residence/ Hotel.
