Sangare Wildlife Conservancy

This 4-day road safari to Sangare Conservancy begins and ends in Nairobi. The tour offers a great opportunity to see Africa’s iconic animals.

The wildlife including eland, oryx, dikdik, impala, bushbuck, waterbuck, lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, and warthog – in a vast wildlife conservancy where they are free and protected in their natural habitat, away from the tourist crowds.

Sangare Conservancy is a 6,500-acre property nestled between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, at 6000 Feet/ 2000 Meters above sea level. The Conservancy is located approximately 166 km north of Nairobi, 27 km from Nyeri town, and 50 km from Nanyuki.

A high-standard fence has been built around the periphery of the property. As a result, Sangare Conservancy now boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, including several rare species with over 40 species of animals.

There are over 300 species of birds and 63 recorded species of indigenous trees and shrubs, including sandalwood (Osiris lanceolate), a prized timber now almost non-existent in many indigenous forests in Kenya.

On your game drives, you will likely see a leopard, striped hyena, Chandler’s reedbuck, Mountain Bongo antelope, and wild dogs. There is plenty to do at the conservancy during your 4 days 3 Nights safari.

Activities include cycling, horse riding, game viewing, picnicking, camping, Swimming, safaris to surrounding parks, helping out in the conservancy, local charity projects, creativity (photography, painting), and fly Fishing.

Sangare Conservancy Highlights | What to Do and See

Game Drives: Game drives around Sangare Conservancy offer up a plethora of wildlife, with over more than 40 species of animals, 300 species of birds, and 63 species of indigenous shrubs and trees.

Fishing: The streams and rivers which crisscross Sangare Conservancy are stocked with trout and anglers are encouraged, should they wish, to bring a rod and try their luck and, tight lines permitting, bring back a fish for supper.

Horse riding: Horse riding offers another vantage point for exploring the scenery and wildlife on Sangare Conservancy. It is outsourced and can be arranged with prior notice, subject to availability.

Sangare Nature walks: Guided game walks offer a slower and more relaxed way of exploring the conservancy. Sangare’s birdlife is incredibly rich and on the plains, antelopes, Giraffes zebra, etc barely lift their heads as guests walk by.

The Bongo Tree House: There is a tree-house hide which is available for use to be able to – if you’re very lucky – see these elusive, shy antelope in their natural habitat.

School visits: Visits to the schools which are supported by the Bongo Surveillance Project can also be organized, and are a great way to see how this project has affected local communities.

Day Trips from Sangare Conservancy: Being so centrally located, Sangare Conservancy is the perfect base to explore the surrounding areas.

Visit Aberdare National Park, Mount Kenya Day treks, and Solio Game Reserve which offers great chances of sightings of rhinoceros.
