Kidepo Valley National Park

Experience some of Uganda’s finest wilderness and wildlife highlights on this 4-day Safari to remote, and beautiful Kidepo Valley National Park located in the rugged, semi-arid valleys of Karamoja province on the far northern border of Uganda and Sudan.

This Uganda Safari adventure offers a remarkable journey into Africa, like none other! Starting and ending in Kampala, the tour travels to Kidepo Valley National Park in the Karamoja region in northeast Uganda.  Kidepo Valley Park is about a 10 hours drive (571 km) from Kampala through Karuma, Gulu, Kitgum, and to Kidepo Valley National Park.

Over 77 species of mammal and 475 species of bird call Kidepo Valley National Park their home. The travel time from Kampala to Kidepo National Park is about 9 hours. You will have an opportunity of viewing some of the Park animals and birds found close to the camp.

On day two we enjoy a game drive and also visit the Kanangorok hot springs situated in the northern part of Kidepo National Park. Along the way, we see animals such as striped hyenas, cheetahs, hunting dogs, Fox, Oribi, Jackson’s Hartebeests, Warthogs, and mountain reedbuck among others.

In the afternoon we visit the Karamajong, a proud people living in their traditional ways as semi-nomadic herders in the remote Karamajong region of Uganda. We visit the Karamojong Manyatta (village) to learn about their traditional ways of life. The Karamajong are a nomadic Pastoralist tribe that rear cattle, goats, sheep, and donkeys and entirely depend on their livestock for food.

On day three we take a nature walk guided by armed rangers in Kidepo Valley National Park which may include a short hike to the Lamoj Mountains.  One of the best and most popular spots for nature walks is the Narus Valley where a lot of wild animals are often seen. It also offers beautiful sceneries of the landscape and is easy to reach most visitors.

Some of the animals commonly seen in Narus Valley include Buffaloes, Elephants, Waterbucks, Warthogs, Lions, Cheetah, and Zebras among others. The afternoon is spent on another game drive where you may see striped Hyenas, Zebra, Leopard, Lion, Herds of up 1,000 Buffalo, Cheetah,  Caracal, Aardwolf, Greater and Lesser Kudu, mountain Reedbuck, and Guenther’s dik-dik.

Kidepo Valley Park has a very impressive bird list of over 470 species, the second-highest population of any Ugandan reserve, following only Queen Elizabeth National Park. Some of these include Kori bustard, Little bee-eater, Ostrich, Red-and-yellow barbet, pygmy Falcon, Verreaux’s Eagle plus the Egyptian Vulture, in addition to many other species.

On day four after breakfast, we travel back to Kampala having lunch en route on the way. The travel time from Kidepo National Park to Kampala is about 9 hours.
