Murchison Falls National Park

This is a 4 day Uganda safari that visits Murchison Falls National Park, one of Uganda’s oldest national parks. Murchison is rated as a top safari destination in the country. The Victoria Nile river runs through the national park, plummeting through a narrow gorge to form the spectacular Murchison Falls, after which the park is named.

Also known as Kabaraga Falls, Murchison Falls drops about 45m into the river after a series of rapids. Below the cascading falls the great Nile fans out into a broad and placid river flowing into Lake Albert. Murchison Falls National Park offers something for everyone, most of all you experience the African Wild, the African Bush, Forest, Wildlife, Birds, Primates, and the River Nile.

The Park is home to more Rothschild Giraffes than anywhere else in Africa. You will find Buffaloes, Elephants, and other wildlife such as Baboons, Monkeys, Leopards, and Lions. Antelopes such as Hartebeest, Bushbucks, Uganda kob, Waterbucks, and Warthogs. Along the River Nile, you will see enormous Nile Crocodiles and a vast number of Hippos.

Murchison Falls Park is known as one of the best birding locations in all of Africa with 451 recorded species such as Storks, Herons, Flycatchers, Sandpipers, Bustards, Hornbills, Barbets, Kingfishers, Bee-eaters, Weavers, finch’s to name a few.

On day one we drive northwest to Murchison Falls National Park, 5 hours from Kampala via Masindi. Once inside the park, we enjoy a game drive en route to the top of the falls. We have great chances of seeing Elephants, Giraffes, Hippo, Leopards, Warthogs, Lions, Giraffes Aardvarks, Chimpanzees, Pangolin, Civets, Buffalo, Hyena, Crocodiles, Oribi, Patas Monkey, Uganda Kob, a wide variety of birdlife.

Once at the top of the falls we enjoy the sight of the Nile River, compressing from 50 meters to squeeze through a 7 meters canyon dropping 40 meters with a thunderous roar creating “the Murchison Falls”. Superlatives like “awesome” “stupendous” “fantastic” and “wow” have been used to describe these amazing falls.

On day two, we enjoy a 4-hour game drive around the Buligi game tracks, which stretch between the Victoria and Albert Niles, and down to the Nile-Lake Albert Delta. Most of the park’s wildlife and birdlife can be viewed from here. These include Jackals, Hyenas, Antelope, Elephants, Uganda Knob, Baboons, Velvet Monkeys, Jackson’s Hartebeest, herds of Buffalo, Bushbucks, Warthogs, Waterbucks, etc.

In the afternoon we embark on a 3-hour boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the base of the Falls. Along the way, you will be able to observe a wide variety of birds and wildlife, including numerous buffaloes, schools of hippos, large Nile crocodiles, and elephants. There are plenty of water birds like fish eagles and various storks as well as breathtaking scenery.

On day three we enjoy a sunrise game drive to the delta searching for lions, leopards, and rare shoebill stocks, while still on the game drive there’s also an abundance of wildlife like Giraffes, Jackson Hartebeests, Kobs, Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, Leopard), Giraffes, Antelopes and plenty of Hippos and Nile Crocodiles.
