Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Nyahururu; check in at Thomson Falls Lodge and relax by the falls
Day 2: Full day in Nyahururu; hike to the base of the falls, visit the hippo pool, and see local artisans
Day 3: Depart for Aberdare National Park; lunch at Aberdare Country Club, followed by a transfer to The Ark for overnight game viewing

This 4-day road safari sees the highlights of Kenya. The tour begins and ends in Nairobi and combines visits to Nyahururu Thomson Falls and Nyahururu town, plus a night at the Ark Tree Lodge in the Aberdare National Park for high-altitude game viewing.

Our 4-Day 3-Night Safari from Nairobi begins with a visit to Nyerere Thompson Falls. Nyahururu is a town in Kenya, lying east of Nakuru.

Nyahururu Town lies at a high altitude (2360 meters) and has a splendid climate, making it Kenya’s highest town. There is a market well worth a browse, especially on Saturdays.

An explorer, Joseph Thomson, came across the waterfall to the north of the town in 1883, which he named Thomson’s Falls after his father. He was the first European to walk from Mombasa to Lake Victoria.

The cascade plunges 75 meters and is a pretty area to walk around. A stony path of sorts leads down to the bottom of the ravine. Do not attempt to go down any other way as the rocks on the side of the ravine are very loose.

It’s more commonly known as ‘T-falls’. Upstream on the Ewaso Narok River is one of Kenya’s highest-altitude hippo pools, in an area of marshy bogland, about 2 km from the falls.

We also visit the Aberdare National Park, famous for its high perches and balconies, overlooking a salt lick and waterhole. Here we will enjoy the finest in high-altitude game viewing.

Animals easily observed in the Aberdare National Park include: rhino, leopard, baboon, Colobus monkey, Sykes monkey, lions, golden cat, and bongo antelope, which lives in the bamboo forest.

Bird watching is rewarding, with over 250 bird species in the park, including Jackson’s Francolin, sparrow hawk, goshawk, eagles, sunbirds, and plovers.
