Day 1: Arrival & Arrival at Lake Shore
Timing: Mid-morning/Early afternoon
Activity: Fly from Nairobi to Lodwar Airport. Meet guide/transfer (approx. 2-4 hrs driving) to Lobolo Camp on the shores of Lake Turkana for lunch, check-in, and relaxation
Evening: Sunset by the lake and overnight
Day 2: Boat Cruise to Koobi Fora & Sibiloi National Park
Timing: Full day (approx. 5-hour boat ride)
Activity: Depart early by boat to the East side of Lake Turkana. Visit the Koobi Fora Museum, the fossil excavation sites, and the hominid excavation sites within Sibiloi National Park.
Evening: Return to Lobolo Camp for dinner
Day 3: Central Island National Park Exploration
Timing: Morning/Early afternoon.
Activity: Boat ride to Central Island National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Hike up to the top of the volcanic craters, view the crater lakes (crocodile lake, flamingo lake), and enjoy the panoramic views
Afternoon: Return for a Turkana cultural experience featuring a dance and a visit to a local homestead
Day 4: Departure
Timing: Morning.
Activity: Breakfast at the camp, followed by a final, short walk around the lake or souvenir shopping
Transfer: Drive back to Lodwar airstrip for the flight back to Nairobi

This 4-day tour takes you back in time to ‘The Cradle of Mankind’ in Turkana, located in northern Kenya, about 700km from Nairobi.
During this four-day expedition, you get to meet the Turkana people and learn about their rich culture; visit and explore Sibiloi National Park (‘The Cradle of Mankind’), home to important archaeological sites including Koobi Fora. Lastly, you will hike/ walk on Central Island and discover its hidden craters.
The Turkana are a Nilotic ethnic community associated with Turkana County, particularly Lake Turkana. One of the largest nomadic communities in Kenya, they are known for their basket weaving and annual Turkana Festival.
You will visit Sibiloi National Park, located on the northeastern shore of Lake Turkana, known for fossils discovered by scientists and researchers such as Dr. Richard Leakey, and for being part of the East African Rift Valley system, with gently sloping hills and volcanic cones.
Before the tour ends, you will visit Central Island (also known as Crocodile Island), for the volumes of reptiles in the three crater lakes. Crocodile Lake, Flamingo Lake, and Tilapia Lake provide breeding grounds for the world’s largest concentration of Nile crocodiles.
Filled with crocodiles living in perfect harmony, they breed on the shores of the island’s crater lakes, a unique sighting for visitors to the island.
Your accommodations will be at the Lobolo Camp, located on the Western Shore of Lake Turkana, with 8 luxury en-suite tents (sleeping 16 guests), comprising 2 double tents and 6 twin tents.

Day 1: Lodwar – Lobolo Camp
Meet and greet on arrival at Lodwar airport and drive to Lobolo Camp on the shores of Lake Turkana. Lunch, dinner and overnight at the Camp.

Day 2: Lobolo Camp – Sibiloi National Park
This morning visit a Turkana village for a cultural experience. Early lunch at the camp and thereafter depart by boat (approximately 4hrs) to Koobi Fora Study Centre in Sibiloi National Park, dinner and overnight at the Basic Bandas.

Day 3: Sibiloi – Koobi Fora – Central Island – Lobolo camp
After breakfast departs by vehicle, and with Koobi Fora field guide, to visit the Kobi Fora museum, the famous fossils excavation sites, fossils of a big-tusked behemoth of a predecessor of today’s Elephant, giant tortoise, fish sites and return in time for lunch.
In the afternoon depart by boat (approximately 2 hours) to Central Island National (UNESCO – world heritage site). From here walk up to Flamingo Lake, the breeding place for flamingos and thereafter return to the boat for another short boat ride to where we start our walk to Crocodile Lake, the breeding place for crocodiles.
Thereafter boat (approximately 1hr) back to Lobolo Camp for Turkana cultural dance, dinner and overnight

Day 4: Lobolo Camp – Lodwar
Breakfast and thereafter transfer to Lodwar for your onward flight to your next destination.
