Turkana Safaris

This 4-day tour takes you back in time to ‘The Cradle of Mankind’ to Turkana – located in northern Kenya, about 700km from Nairobi.

During this four-day expedition you get to meet the Turkana people and learn about their rich culture; visit and explore Sibiloi National Park (‘The Cradle of Mankind’) home to important archaeological sites including Koobi Fora. Lastly, you will hike/ walk on Central Island and discover its hidden craters.

The Turkana are a Nilotic ethnic community connected to Turkana County, in particular Lake Turkana. One of the largest nomadic communities in Kenya, they are known for their basket weaving and annual Turkana Festival.

You will visit Sibiloi National Park located on the northeastern shore of Lake Turkana known for its fossils which were discovered by scientists and researchers such as Dr Richard Leaky and is part of the East African rift valley system with gently sloping hills and volcanic cones.

Before the tour end, you will visit Central Island (also known as Crocodile Island), for the volumes of reptiles in the three crater lakes. Crocodile Lake, Flamingo Lake, and Tilapia Lake provide breeding grounds for the world’s largest concentration of Nile crocodiles.

Filled with crocodiles living in perfect harmony, they breed on the shores of the island’s crater lakes, a unique sighting for visitors to the island.

Your accommodations will be at the Lobolo Camp located on the Western Shore of Lake Turkana with 8 luxury en-suite tents (sleeping 16 guests) in 2 double tents and 6 twin tents.
