4 Days Mombasa Safari Tsavo West Amboseli Tsavo East National Park

4-Day/ 3-Night Tsavo West, Amboseli, and Tsavo East National Park safari from Mombasa begins in Mombasa (or Diani) and ends in Mombasa. Experience an authentic Big 5 Safari that combines both Tsavo East and West National Parks with Amboseli National Park on this 4-day adventure.

Stay at top-quality safari lodges in Tsavo and West National Parks and Amboseli National Park, enjoying sweeping views of the African plains, flanked by Mount Kilimanjaro. Explore both Tsavo East & West and Amboseli parks on 4×4 safari drives in search of Africa’s Big Five and the abundant other wildlife in these beautiful Kenyan game parks.

Tsavo East National Park and West National Park are two of Kenya’s great wilderness destinations, offering superb wildlife viewing across vast, uncrowded landscapes. Home to all of the Big Five, the park is particularly known for its elephant and lion populations, with the added possibility of spotting the rare black rhino at the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary in Tsavo West.

Tsavo also stands out for its excellent birding, including a range of dry-country specials, and scenic natural landmarks such as the Galana River, Mudanda Rock, and the crystal-clear springs of Mzima.

With off-the-beaten-track safari options and easy access from Kenya’s coast, Tsavo delivers exceptional value and a true sense of space for travelers seeking a wilder safari experience.. Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds and close-range wildlife sightings with the majestic Kilimanjaro as a scenic backdrop.

Tsavo East & West National Park Highlights

Tsavo National Park, one of Kenya’s largest, offers a true wilderness experience featuring red-soiled elephants, dramatic volcanic landscapes, and diverse wildlife.

Visitors can explore the Tsavo West and Tsavo East areas, featuring the Galana River and Mzima Springs, which are renowned for having fewer crowds and a raw, untamed atmosphere. Highlights include:

Iconic Wildlife: Abundant big game, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, and giraffes
Red Elephant Herds: Famous large herds of elephants stained red by the area’s iron-rich soil
Mzima Springs: Crystal-clear pools teeming with hippos and fish, offering a serene oasis in Tsavo West
Volcanic Landscapes: Dramatic scenery featuring lava flows, volcanic hills, and vast open savannah plains
River Ecosystems: Crucial water sources, including the Galana and Tsavo Rivers, are attracting diverse wildlife
Raw Wilderness: Known for its vast, unspoiled nature, offering a more remote and less crowded experience compared to other parks

Amboseli Highlights

Amboseli National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see large elephant herds up close, set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Compact and wildlife-rich, the park delivers excellent Big Five sightings, open savannah landscapes, seasonal wetlands, and rewarding photography opportunities.

Its accessibility from Nairobi and position near the Tanzania border make it a smart choice for multi-country affordable safaris and multi-park Kenya safari itineraries that balance strong wildlife viewing with great value.

Amboseli may be smaller than some of Kenya’s other parks, but it punches well above its weight in terms of wildlife density and scenery, and the highlights include:

Open Plains & Visibility: Vast, open savannahs and dry lake beds make spotting wildlife easy, particularly during the dry season.
Kilimanjaro Views: Features the most iconic, postcard-worthy views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peaks against the savannah
Predator Sightings: High concentrations of lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are frequently spotted, especially patrolling the swamps and open plains
Photographic Opportunities: Renowned as a premier photography destination year-round, offering dramatic lighting, particularly in the mornings and evenings
Seasonal Swamps & Birds: Underground water from Kilimanjaro feeds wetlands, attracting hippos and over 400 bird species, including pelicans, herons, and flamingos
Big 5 Focus: Exceptional opportunities to see 4 of the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo). While rhinos are absent, the park is famed for having the most intimate elephant encounters in Africa
Super Tuskers: The park is famous for massive elephant herds and some of the last remaining “super tuskers”—bulls with tusks weighing over 100 pounds, including the iconic (late) Craig and his descendants

Amboseli National Park

This 4-day road safari combines some of Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife areas, including Tsavo East National Park, Amboseli National Park, and Tsavo West National Park.

The tour begins from Mombasa and includes 1 Night in Tsavo East National Park, followed by 1 Night in Amboseli National Park, and 1 Night in Tsavo West National Park before returning to Mombasa.

After breakfast, the safari departs Mombasa for Tsavo East National Park, one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya, located near the town of Voi, 153 km from Mombasa. Tsavo East National Park is a natural area of flat, dry plains, with thorny bushes and swampy marshland near the river.

Tsavo East wildlife includes large families of giraffes, gazelles, hartebeests, and zebras, as well as the “Big Five” must-see animals – buffalo, African elephants, lions, rhinos, and leopards.

Our next destination after 1 night in Tsavo East National Park is the Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is renowned for its large herds of free-ranging African elephants. There are over 900 African elephants in Amboseli, as well as huge herds of wildebeests and many other animals, including giraffes, African lions, monkeys, zebras, hyenas, and antelopes.

The best place to view Mount Kilimanjaro is in Amboseli National Park. You also have a cultural opportunity to meet the Maasai people and learn about their customs and indigenous way of life.

Before returning to Mombasa, we visit Tsavo West National Park, which offers attractions such as red elephants, bird watching, hill hiking, Mzima Springs hippos, and Lake Jipe, to caving and boating. Tsavo West is home to elephants, African lions, hippos, cheetahs, hartebeest, and buffalo.
