5 Days 4 Nights Lake Mburo Queen Elizabeth Park Safari begins with a visit to Lake Mburo National Park – the smallest of Uganda’s savannah National Parks. It is known for its sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and its idyllic lake shores with a variety of different species of mammals and birds.
After Mburo, proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park – the world’s most bio-diversity wildlife sanctuary featuring climbing lions, leopards, hippos, elephants, and buffaloes not forgetting the beautiful launch cruise along the Kazinga channel.
This safari starts with a drive to the south of the country, approximately 5 hours on good tarmac roads from Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park. Lake Mburo supports 68 mammal species including topi, roan antelope, and giant eland. Jackals, leopards, and hyenas prey on the abundant herbivores.
Birders come especially to seek acacia-specialist species, such as red-faced barbet, which otherwise would be difficult to locate in Uganda. A cruise on Lake Mburo may reveal crocodiles, hippos, pelicans, and various other aquatic birds. Guided walks and game drives are offered in the park.
Queen Elizabeth National Park has the greatest variety of mammals and birds of any protected area in Uganda. You should see elephants, the shy sitatunga, and great herds of Uganda kob. Black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest’s, red-tailed and blue monkeys are among the primates.
The park’s twenty species of predator include the vociferous spotted hyena and it is the best place in Uganda to seek leopards. Among the 568 bird species recorded are the black-headed gonolek, the beautiful black bee-eater, the lowland akalat, and the swamp flycatcher. The southern part of the park, Ishasha, is best known for its population of tree-climbing lions.
Maramagambo Forest, where guided walks are offered, contains chimpanzees which are seasonally present, depending on the availability of wild figs and other fruit. There is an abundance of forest birds. Mweya, the park’s northern sector, offers excellent game viewing.
A launch cruise down the Kazinga Channel is an opportunity to see elephant, hippo, waterbuck, bushbuck, and water birds galore, including the occasional shoebill.
