Serengeti National Park

This 6 day Tanzania road Safari explores two of Africa’s most unforgettable wildlife destinations – Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Beginning and ending in Arusha, the tour starts with a 6-hour transfer to the central area of Serengeti National Park, known as the Seronera section. Serengeti National Park is located some 350 km from Arusha.

The drive takes us past the village of Mto Wa Mbu and Karatu town. We travel into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, driving along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and down the outer slopes towards the open plains of the Serengeti.

We stop for lunch at the entry gate near Naabi Hill and we continue with a game drive en route to our camp/ lodge. The Serengeti is one of the best safari destinations in the world, rivaling Kenya’s Masai Mara. Here you will see a rich variety of wildlife roaming the African savannahs that stretch out as far as the eye can see.

The Serengeti National Park is one of the leading safari destinations in Africa, seen as the original home of the traditional African safari, along with Masai Mara. Forming part of the same ecosystem as Mara, the Serengeti Plains also offer the quintessential African savannah setting, only more vast than the Kenyan counterpart, at 14 763 km².

Our overnight camp/ lodge is located in the central part of the Serengeti National Park, deep in the bush. Accommodation options include Seronera Wildlife Lodge, Mbalageti Serengeti, Melia Serengeti Lodge, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti and Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge.

Day two and three are set aside for exploring the legendary Serengeti National Park on game drives. This massive wildlife reserve is famous for the same annual migration as Masai Mara, whereby over a million herbivores move south from the northern to the southern plains of Serengeti, in the short rainy season (October and November), returning north after the long rainy season (April to June).

Serengeti Park offers superb wildlife viewing year-round, so we should see plenty of plains game and predators roaming the grasslands. These include Wildebeest, Zebra, Gazelle, Topi, Buffalo, and Hartebeest among others. The Park is also famous for predator populations, especially big cats – Lion, Cheetah, and Leopard.

On day four, we take a morning game drive in Serengeti National Park, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way and later visit the Olduvai Museum and Gorge, the archaeological site where fossils of our earliest human ancestors and their tools have been unearthed.

There is also the option of visiting a Maasai village to encounter East Africa’s best-known ethnic group – the semi-nomadic Masai. We then head for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area enjoying a game drive en-route. We arrive at our lodge/ camp in the Ngorongoro Crater area in time for dinner.

Accommodation options include &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Entamanu Camp, Kirurumu Ngorongoro, Lemala Ngorongoro Camp, Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, and Ngorongoro Sopa.

After breakfast on day five, we set off for the game-rich Ngorongoro Crater and embark on a six-hour game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, with almost every large mammal represented across the range of natural habitats here.

Exploring the floor of the world’s largest unflooded volcanic crater offers superb wildlife sightings!

Day six begins with breakfast, followed by a transfer back to Arusha. Our magical 6-day Serengeti & Ngorongoro crater Safari comes to a close midday afternoon in Arusha.
