6 Days 5 Nights Kenya Fly-in Holiday Peponi Hotel Lamu: This is a 5-night fly-in luxury holiday package to Peponi Hotel – a small boutique lodge on the remote island of Lamu, situated in the Indian Ocean off the North Kenyan coast.

Our Lamu Island holiday begins with a flight from Nairobi to Lamu Island. The flight takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes from Wilson airport. Upon arrival at Manda Island airstrip, you will be met by a representative from Peponi Hotel followed by a 15 minutes boat ride transfer to Shela beach located on the southeastern corner of Lamu Island.

Spend the next 6 days at Peponi Hotel based in Shela village. Peponi is a fabulous and very reasonably priced boutique hotel run by Lars and Carol Korschen, whose family house it has been since the 1960s.

A house that grew into a hotel, its iconic main building is synonymous with the beachfront of Shella village, situated at the start of a 14 km stretch of beach. Small and personal, it is the perfect rest after a safari or a hideaway holiday from modern life.

Peponi has 28 rooms and all our rooms have an ocean view and each is unique in decor and layout. Guests have a choice of superior, family rooms or standard rooms; superior are differentiated by their location, size and private outside area with a swing bed, they also have a hairdryer and mini fridge for use during your stay.

All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, overhead fans inside the mosquito net and personal safes. We focus on being as eco-friendly as possible from the amenities in the room to making our water through reverse osmosis to reduce the use of plastic.

Peponi’s gardens boast one of the largest and most varied collections of tropical palms and exotic plants on the Kenyan coast. Swing hammocks under the shade of coconut trees and a freshwater free-form swimming pool under two giant Baobab trees offer the perfect places to relax.

Although primarily a hotel, the restaurant has gained a name for itself as one of the best in East Africa, and there are multiple, spectacular settings to enjoy these delicious meals. Peponi’s legendary bar is a favourite watering hole for guests and Shella village inhabitants alike, so much so that demand required an extension.

The Jahazi Bar opened in 2019, an area that can also be used as a private event space for drinks parties and dinners. 

Activities include exploring the archipelago under sail or motor, visiting the ruins at Takwa at the high tide, raising a glass at sunset or sailing under a full moon. Guided tours of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lamu Old Town are arranged every morning. Snorkelling and swimming with dolphins are possible between October and March, also deep-sea sports fishing or hand-line fishing on local dhows can be arranged.

Day 1: Nairobi – Fly to Lamu Island (Shela Beach)

After breakfast at your Nairobi hotel/ residence, you have the option for a half-day city tour of Nairobi. Transfer to Wilson Airport for your scheduled flight to Lamu. The flight departs at 1345 hours and takes approximately 1.30 minutes.

Upon arrival approximately at 1530 hours, you will be met by a representative from Peponi boutique hotel followed by a 15-minute transfer by boat to the hotel for check-in and overnight. Peponi hotel is located on the beachfront in Shela village which is 2 miles from Lamu Town.

Day 2, 3, 4 & 5: Relax or Explore Lamu Island (Shela Beach)

At Peponi we can offer activities to get you out and exploring or swing the day away in a hammock catching up on some much-needed relaxation, it’s entirely up to you! Activities include;

Bird Watching: the sand flats and mangrove forests are home to an incredible array of birdlife, best seen at sunset as they come in to roost
Massages: fully relax and release tension with a massage, we have two wonderful masseurs, who can really work out the knots or get more spiritual and cleanse your chakras.
Sunset sail: A must experience when visiting Lamu, watching the sunset while aboard a dhow, a vessel that has sailed these waters for centuries
Toes in the Sand: Shella beach boasts a 14 km stretch of untouched beach, facing the vast Indian Ocean, and it’s not the only beach to choose from
History: The archipelago is steeped in history, intertwining cultures from across the globe for centuries; start your journey through time when visiting Takwa Ruins & Lamu Town, and maybe you’ll be enticed to explore further
Keep active: on the ocean with the many water sports on offer. Swim the channel, windsurf, wakeboard, waterski, kite surf, snorkel, kayak, sail, go creek floating. You can also hike the dunes, run the beach or bush
Underwater Adventures: between October and March you can snorkel at Manda Toto and then enjoy a delicious barbeque picnic or head to Kinyika where you may be able to play with the dolphins

Day 6: Day of Departure (Fly to Nairobi)

Morning is spent here. After lunch, you are transferred to the Airport for the scheduled flight to Nairobi. On arrival, you are met and transferred to Jomo Kenyatta Airport for your departure flight or to your hotel.
