8 Day Kenya Safari Meru Nakuru Naivasha Masai Mara | 2 Nights Meru National Park, 1 Nights Lake Nakuru National Park, 1 Night Lake Naivasha & 3 Nights Masai Mara National Reserve Safari | 8 Days 7 Nights Kenya Road Safari Tours | 8 Days Kenya Safaris

Meru National Park

This 8-day Kenya road safari takes you off the beaten track to the savannahs of Meru National Park, then across the Kenyan central highlands and along the Rift Valley visiting both Lake Nakuru National Park and Lake Naivasha then winding up in the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Beginning and ending in Nairobi, this tour starts with Meru National Park set in the dry wilderness of northern Kenya, far off the beaten track of the regular safari. Meru National Park is also one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa, the lioness of Born Free fame.

Highlights include excellent game viewing including the big five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Other species include giraffe, zebra, waterbuck, kudu, eland and impala to name a few. The bird life is sensational and it truly is a birder’s paradise with nearly 450 species of birds in riverine, woodland and Savannah habitats.

The tour then continues by road across the Kenyan central highlands and along the Rift Valley, with a brief stopover for photos at Thompson Falls (Nyahururu) then proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park.

Lake Nakuru covers an area of some 180 km² and its diverse habitats are home to warthog, baboon, waterbuck and large numbers of impala. You can look for black and white rhinos, tree-climbing lions, leopards and Rothschild’s giraffes. A herd of hippo have their territory in the northern part of the lake.

When conditions are right, between one and two million lesser and greater flamingos feed around the shores of the shallow lake, which together with tens of thousands of other water birds within a species list of around 400 birds, make Lake Nakuru a genuine ornithologists paradise.

After one night at Lake Nakuru, we journey by road to Lake Naivasha located outside the town of Naivasha and is part of the Great Rift Valley. We take a boat ride on the lake which has over 400 species of birds, like fish eagles, ospreys, lily-trotters, black crakes, and herons.

There are also opportunities to see a large community of hippos bathing in the water and giraffe, impala, zebra and buffalo grazing on the Lake shores.

We also visit Crescent Island private Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoy an easily guided walking safari to see animals such as giraffes, zebra, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles, waterbuck, eland, and indeed many bird species.

Then the time has come to explore Masai Mara – one of the most famous game parks on the planet, considered by many to be the finest wildlife safari destination in all of Africa. The Masai Mara has plenty of wildlife, such as Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, hartebeests, and wildebeest.

Elephants, buffalo, zebras and hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but reasonably common.
