Our 8-Day Lamu Island Beach Holiday is a fly-in luxury beach holiday that can be done as an addition to a Kenya safari or independently. Starting in the ancient Arab town of Lamu, now a world heritage site, you will follow the steps of Sinbad the Sailor, walking narrow Arab streets, devoid of vehicles but populated by working donkeys and watching Arab dhows still plying their ancient routes.
Lamu town is a Unesco World Heritage site, this ancient town is Kenya’s oldest continually inhabited town, and was one of the original Swahili settlements that formed part of the trading seaports along coastal East Africa. Lamu is majority Muslim, but tolerant of all other cultures and religions.
Following a 2 night stay at Peponi Hotel in Lamu, (a small boutique hotel), you will be transferred on a 20-minute boat trip to Manda Island and the ‘barefoot luxury’ of Manda Bay Lodge. Manda Bay is a small privately owned boutique lodge located on the northern tip of Manda Island in the Lamu archipelago on Kenya’s coast.
Manda Bay is the perfect escape for families, honeymooners, and couples looking for the ultimate ‘no shoes, no news’ experience and is renowned for its wonderfully relaxed atmosphere with a variety of activities on offer.
The lodge offers Robinson-Cruse-style individual cottages on miles of a private tropical beach, lapped by the Indian Ocean. Spend your days as you wish enjoying activities such as bottom fishing, trolling, fly fishing, deep sea fishing, boating activities such as waterskiing, banana rides and inflatable tube rides, and windsurfers.
Visit snorkelling sites, go sailing, game drives to see animals such as greater Galago bushbaby, white-tailed mongoose, civet cat, porcupine, hyaena, genet cat, and occasionally leopard; we regularly see dik-dik, buffalo and bushbuck, dwarf mongoose, yellow baboons, and vervet monkeys.
Go bird watching or visit the Takwa Ruins to enjoy history – (a Swahili settlement called on the opposite side of Lamu town on Manda Island).

Small and personal, it is the perfect rest after a safari or a hideaway holiday from modern life.
