This 10-day Tanzania fly-in luxury Safari vacation uses exclusively Sanctuary Retreats lodges and camps which provide outstanding accommodation in magnificent settings, excellent service, adventurous activities and dedication to the environment.
Northern Tanzania’s top wildlife destinations are on this itinerary. Activities include game drives in off-road 4×4 vehicles with professional safari guides, guided walks and spot-lit night drives; back at camp you stay in elegant tented suites with private bathrooms and sit down to candle-lit suppers.
Private flights are included between the camps to get you straight to the wildlife without spending hours traveling between the parks over rough roads. You will visit Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti, among the most famous parks in the world, you’ll head on daily game drives to see lions, elephants, and zebras in the stunning African wilderness.
Your starting point is Arusha, the gateway to the gateway to the Northern Tanzania safari circuit. Spend your first night acclimatizing to your surroundings whilst holed up at the Arusha Coffee Lodge, set amongst the largest coffee crop plantation in Tanzania, before being whisked away to Arusha Airport and transported to the glorious Tarangire National Park.
After spending 2 nights at Sanctuary Swala Camp on day and night game drives, walking safaris, bush breakfasts, picnics & dinners in Tarangire, you will transfer to one of the most game-filled places in Africa: the Ngorongoro Crater.
Your home here is at the luxury Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp and a game drive through the crater is likely to be one of the biggest highlights of your vacation.
Set on the rim of Tanzania’s famed Ngorongoro Crater, right by the entrance gate leading to the crater floor, Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp allows its guests unrivalled access. Be the first to arrive in the crater for exclusive morning game drives, or enjoy cultural visits at a Maasai village.
From Ngorongoro to another world-renowned highlight: Serengeti National Park. Your final three nights are at Sanctuary Kusini Camp, located in the southern-central region of the Serengeti National Park.
Enjoy day wildlife watching and game driving safaris in Serengeti, wildebeest migration safaris, bird watching, Maasai Village visits, bush breakfast and lunches and balloon Safaris over the Serengeti.
The tour ends with a flight back to Arusha’s and later a transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Safari Itinerary in Detail
Day 1: Kilimanjaro – Transfer to Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by an African Spice Safaris representative and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel. The remainder of your day is at leisure. Arusha Coffee Lodge is located on a coffee plantation on the outskirts of Arusha.
Designed around the style of the original plantation houses but completely renovated to achieve the highest standards of comfort, the décor is luxuriant and stylish with undertones of the bygone days of early exploration.
Each of the 18 plantation houses has been lavishly furnished and features a split-level living area and a private deck. The lodge also boasts a coffee shop, patisserie and a swimming pool.

Days 2: Arusha – Fly to Tarangire National Park
Early this morning you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to Arusha airstrip for your flight to Tarangire National Park. Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to Sanctuary Swala in our customized open safari vehicle.
Driving time is approximately 30 minutes with game viewing en route. Each of the twelve tents at Sanctuary Swala is shaded by tall acacia trees and ancient baobabs and is within sight of the well-frequented waterhole.
The canvas pavilions at Sanctuary Swala are unashamedly luxurious but still close enough to nature to permit an exciting night under canvas. In the afternoon there is time to relax before embarking on your first game drive.
Huge herds of elephant, greater kudu, impala and zebra are all easily spotted while leopards lurk in the trees. Due to the camp’s secluded location you are unlikely to see many vehicles as you venture out into the national park.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park
Awake to the sounds of the bush as a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee is served on your tent’s deck. This morning you may like to sleep in and enjoy your surrounds, or explore the park on an early morning game drive before returning to camp for a refreshing drink and lunch.
This afternoon you have time to relax on your private deck with a cool drink and gaze out to the waterhole and watch as the game lazily congregates in the shade to escape the heat. As the afternoon progresses you may like to explore the Tarangire on an afternoon game drive.
The beauty of Tarangire unfolds as you venture out into the baobab scattered landscape. During the dry season the concentration of wildlife in the Tarangire is second only to the Serengeti ecosystem. Return to camp to freshen up before meeting around the camp fire for a pre-dinner drink as you discuss the day’s adventures.

Day 4: Tarangire – Fly to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Manyara. Our Sanctuary Retreats guide will meet you at the airstrip and transfer you to the camp, approximately a 30-minute drive with game viewing en route.
Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp is located in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation area, on the crater rim. There are 10 luxury safari tents. Each custom-made walk in tent is spacious and complete with en-suite bathroom, flush toilet, shower and hot water available throughout the day.
Each tent provides a room safe, hairdryer and mosquito nets. There are three main area tents: a dining tent, lounge, and bar and lounge tent.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
Awaken early this morning to a warm cup of tea or coffee served on the veranda of your tent. After a hearty breakfast, you can enjoy the activities on offer: Game drives with English speaking driver/ guide in Ngorongoro crater and on the rim, and a Masai village visit and bush meals.
Enjoy game viewing with the spectacular backdrop of the crater wall at every turn. This great caldera is home to around 30,000 animals with a high concentration of predators. Zebra and wildebeest account for almost half the animals with plenty of gazelle, buffalo, hartebeest, warthog and bull elephants.
On the lake in the middle of the crater, you may see thousands of flamingos fluttering and shimmering like a pink heat haze. Return to camp this afternoon with time for a hot shower before predinner drinks by the camp fire as you discuss the day’s adventures.

Day 6: Ngorongoro – Fly to Serengeti National Park
This morning transfer back to Manyara airstrip for your onward flight to the Serengeti departing at 0915, flying time is approximately 1 hour. Upon arrival you will be met by a Sanctuary Kusini representative and transferred to camp.
Driving time to camp is 30 minutes through the Serengeti with game viewing en route. Accommodation is offered in twelve double tents which are scattered around the main kopje. Private verandas with comfortable furnishings extend in front of each unit where your personal tent attendant will bring you tea and coffee so you can relax and enjoy your peaceful surroundings.
The dining area, lounge and library are housed in the main area, which affords spectacular views from its wooden deck and the adjacent kopje. Following dinner this evening retire to the kopje where you may take this rare opportunity to enjoy a star safari as the camp manager unravels the myths of the night sky.

Day 7 & 8: Serengeti National Park
Today you may choose to either partake in a full day game drive into the heart of the Serengeti with a picnic lunch or remain close to camp with morning and afternoon game drives. The area around Sanctuary Kusini is famed for its cheetah.
While at Sanctuary Kusini you have the chance to contribute to cheetah conservation through the Serengeti Cheetah project. On a cheetah watch drive, learn how to identify cheetah with the use of field ID kits and how to monitor their behavior. The photos from your sightings will be combined with the record of their location and sent to the research centre.
In return the centre will provide you with a detailed background of your cheetah, its family and its last sighting. This evening return to camp and climb to the top of the kopje for stunning 360-degree views of the Serengeti. Relax with your preferred drink as you watch the setting sun paint the Serengeti with pinks, oranges and reds.

Day 9: Serengeti- Fly to Arusha – Kilimanjaro – Depart
Enjoy a leisurely morning relaxing at camp or venture out early on one last morning game drive before transferring to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Kilimanjaro via Arusha. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro connect with your onward flight.
