9 Days Samburu Mount Kenya Aberdare Nakuru Naivasha Mara Safari offers encounter with wildlife, scenic and cultural highlights.

Samburu stands as one of the most beautiful Kenya Parks in Northern Circuit. It holds the most indigenous wildlife as well as the home of African Elephants and beautiful species of Zebras and the Masai Giraffes.

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro.

There are 12 remnant glaciers on the mountain, all receding rapidly, and four secondary peaks that sit at the head of the U-shaped glacial valleys.

Aberdares National Park is characterized by the picturesque, steep forested ravines and open moorland.

The park provides a habitat for elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, warthogs and bushbucks among others.

Lake Nakuru National Park Originally protected as a bird sanctuary, this park hosts over 400 bird species, including 5 globally threatened species, and is an important stop on the African-Eurasian Migratory Flyway.

This park was also the first national Rhino sanctuary and hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of the Black Rhinoceros.

Lake Naivasha National Park is a beautiful freshwater lake, fringed by thick papyrus. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow fever tree.

These forests abound with bird life, and Naivasha is known as a world class birding. Masai Mara widely considered to be Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve.

The Mara comprises 200 sq miles of open plains, woodlands and riverine forest.

Contiguous with the plains of the Serengeti, the Mara is home to a breathtaking array of life. The vast grassland plains are scattered with herds of Zebra, Giraffe, Gazelle, and Topi.

9 Days Samburu Mount Kenya Aberdare Nakuru Naivasha Mara Safari Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Samburu Game Reserve
After breakfast, depart by road driving north crossing the equator from the Southern to the Northern hemisphere to Samburu Game Reserve a semi arid region excellent for the photographer.

Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River.

It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa oryxes.

Day 2: Explore Samburu Game Reserve
Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the river from our tent’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand.

Before the dew is off the grass, we’re off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands.

The reserves have numerous permanent springs and a wealth of wildlife which includes leopard, hippo, elephant, lion, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and crocodile in the Ewaso Nyiro River.

Over 365 species of birds have been identified in the sanctuaries. And so the day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in our cozy camp.

Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve – Drive to Mount Kenya Safari Club
After breakfast, proceed to Mount Kenya  magnificent Mount Kenya Safari Club nestled in the foothills of snow–capped Mount Kenya.

Its sprawling colonial design was influenced by the late actor William Holden, who founded the Club in 1959 with two of his friends.

His love for Africa led him to make Kenya his second home for over twenty-five years.

The club has over the years attracted legions of internationally renowned members and guests from the world of politics, film and theatre.

Sir Winston Churchill and Lord Mountbatten were members, and enjoyed sojourns at the club, as have legends Clark Gable and John Wayne, and more recent celebrities such as Robert Redford, Sean Connery and Catherine Deneuve.

You too will receive the star treatment as you settle into your suite or cozy cottage. Pay a visit and do not miss the animal orphanage operated by the William Holden Wildlife Foundation.

Here wildlife foundlings are raised with great care and many are quite tame. It is an opportunity to get close to some wild creatures that despite a struggle have managed to survive.

Overnight Accommodation: Mount Kenya Safari Club

Day 4: Mount Kenya Safari Club – Drive to Aberdare National Park
Morning shall be spent with optional activities in the lodge. Later proceed to the Aberdares National park.

After lunch and tea/Coffee or Hot chocolate, set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet.

This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: giant forest hog, bush pig, tree hyrax, large spotted genet, and the elusive bongo.

Wildlife can be observed from different levels — and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cozy.

You can put in a request to be awakened during the night if your favorite animals show up. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a Leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance.

Overnight Accommodation: The Ark or Treetops Hotel
Meal Plan {Lunch & Dinner}

Day 5: Aberdare National Park – Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park
Depart in the morning for Lake Nakuru via Nyahururu, arriving at your lodge in time for lunch. After lunch an exciting game run is planned for the afternoon.

The game in this park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant.

The Park is a home to stunning flocks of lesser and Greater Flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores in to a magnificent pink stretch.

The bird life here is world renowned and over 400 bird’s species exist here, White Pelicans, Plovers, Egrets and Marabou Stork.

It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the white Rhino and rare Rothschild Giraffe.

Day 7: Lake Naivasha – Drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve
After a leisure breakfast at Naivasha Sopa Lodge, depart overland to the Masai Mara Game Reserve-jewel of Kenya’s Game Park.

The Masai Mara is Kenya’s finest and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary where gentle rolling grassland ensures animals are never out of sight.

The climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well spread rainfall year round. The sensation of the great wildebeest migration between July and October is unparalleled.

The wildlife is far from being confined within the Reserve boundaries and an even larger area extends beyond the game Reserve.

Centuries of close association with the wildlife has resulted in an almost symbiotic relationship where wildlife and Masai people live in peace with one another.

After lunch, explore the Reserve on a late evening ‘Spice’ game drive.

No matter how much you have thought about Africa, this is more than you expected—the big five-Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Cape buffalo are in abundance.

Overnight Accommodation: Mara Sopa Lodge or Mara Serena Lodge or Siana Springs Tented Camp
Meal Plan {Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner}

Day 8: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today we will be spending in the vast eco-system of the Mara searching for the big five and much more.

You also have an optional balloon safari- Many call it a once in a life time experience, once you are up, you won’t want to come down, and once you land, champagne breakfast awaits you.

Game viewing is great from the air with the opportunity for beautiful pictures. The annual wildebeest migration is expected in the Masai Mara between July and early November.

Millions of aimals migrate to the Mara from Serengeti in search for fresh green pastures and water.

It’s worth noting that every game drive is different from the other, and missing one is missing out on the fun.

Day 9: Masai Mara – Drive to Nairobi
Breakfast and one last look at the Mara before we head back to Nairobi by road. We check into our Hotel and enjoy a few hours of relaxation by the pool or perhaps revisit a favorite shop or two.

After dinner we proceed to the airport knowing that this has been a journey to remember for the rest of our lives.
