Aberdare National Park Day Trip Safari
Aberdare National Park Day Trip Safari journeys to the Central Highlands of Kenya, west of Mountain Kenya, to the Aberdare National Park, 180 km from Nairobi. The trip takes about 3 hours of driving one way.
(Note: your trip could begin from Nairobi, Thika, Nyeri, Naivasha, etc.). Aberdare National Park has very beautiful scenery. There are magnificent waterfalls, namely Karuru and Chania.
Herds of forest elephants and buffalo move almost silently through the undergrowth, while overhead, loud chirping birds, Colobus monkeys, and Sykes monkeys dominate the canopy.
Other animals that are relatively easy to observe include the lion, leopard, and giant forest hog, which is almost twice the size of a normal warthog. Also abundant are waterbuck, reedbuck, duikers, and bushbuck. Rarer sightings include the golden cat and the bongo, an elusive forest antelope found in bamboo forests.
Animals such as the eland and several cat species can be found higher up in the moorlands. The Aberdare National Park also contains a large population of black rhinos. The crystal clear mountain streams are teeming with trout.

Aberdare National Park Day Trip Safari Itinerary
0600 Hours: We depart Nairobi after breakfast. Your drive takes you through the Kenyan Highlands, past pineapple and coffee plantations in Thika, Murang’a, and Nyeri.
0900 Hours: We arrive at the Aberdare National Park, check in to the park, and proceed on a game drive. The park is a forest and mountain range that starts at 1829 meters and rises to its highest point at 4001 meters above sea level.
The mountain range is heavily forested and forms the rim of the Great Rift Valley at some point. The ranges gradually slope down towards Nyahururu, and the forest is a mixture of dense forest on the lowlands, giving way to bamboo and then the moorland towards the top.
Our Trip explores the dense forest at the lower level of the mountain range, home to many animals, including elephants, rhinos, leopards, giant forest hogs, buffaloes, and colobus monkeys. The alpine moorland and bamboo forests are home to eland and bongo antelopes, which are very shy and hard to spot. You will be able to spot many of these animals on your day trip.
1300 Hours: We enjoy a picnic at 3,500 meters above sea level, surrounded by a breathtaking landscape of waterfalls and forest, and the sound of screaming monkeys in the treetops.
1400 Hours: Later, we proceed on another game drive. Aside from wildlife, Aberdare National Park has over 200 species of birds, including the globally threatened Sharpe’s Longclaw, Aberdare Cisticola, Abbott’s Starling, and Jackson’s Widowbird.
1500 Hours: We exit the park gate and drive back to Nairobi.
1800 Hours: Arrive late evening and transfer you back to your hotel/ residence.
