African Heritage House Nairobi Day Tour
The African Heritage House Nairobi Day Tour is a half-day trip to the African Heritage House, overlooking Nairobi National Park. The house is located 25 km from Nairobi city, near Mlolongo on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, and a 15-minute drive from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
It is owned and designed by Alan Donovan, an American co-founder of the African Heritage Pan African Galleries. The House has a collection of artwork and artifacts from across Africa on display, making a tour of African Heritage House an intriguing and unexpected way to learn about Africa’s native peoples.
There are original sculptures, tribal costumes, Native arts and crafts, jewelry, beadwork, African fabric, musical instruments, and handcrafted furniture available for purchase during your stay. The 90-minute tour of the house and grounds, led by Alan Donovan, immerses you in Africa’s rich history and traditions, with Nairobi National Park just outside your window.
Once at the house, the African Heritage tour begins with coffee or tea at the private train stop overlooking Nairobi National Park, with a view of the Ngong Hills in the distance. (Note: the train is presently not available for guests except for large events when arrangements can be made to rent the train for transport to African Heritage House and return to Nairobi.)
Guests are then taken around the pool and grounds, including the famous “Wedding Tree” where couples get married. The tour includes the sculpture garden by the poolside and then continues through the four floors of African Heritage House, ending on the rooftop lookout with a breathtaking view of Nairobi National Park and its surroundings.
The total time allowed is 2 hours. After the tour of the house, we enjoy lunch served on the rooftop or by the refreshing pool. Later, we transfer you back to Nairobi to your residence or hotel.
