Arusha National Park 1 Day Safari Itinerary
0730 Hours: Breakfast at your Hotel.
0830 Hours: After breakfast, our Arusha National Park 1-Day Safari departs by road (25 kilometers) from the east of Arusha Town to Arusha National Park. Begin your game drive in the park.
The park (137 km²) has terrain ranging from open savannah to acacia scrubland, Afro-montane cloud and rainforest, and Afro-alpine vegetation similar to that of Mount Kilimanjaro.
There are several alkaline lakes and the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater. Although small, the park has a wealth of wildlife, including colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, bushbucks, buffaloes, red forest duikers, hippos, elephants, and giraffes.
Birdlife, especially waterfowl, is abundant and interesting. You can do some hiking (at extra cost) with an armed ranger at the Ngurdoto Crater and to the Mt. Meru Crater.
The hike is superb, often giving the best views available of Mount Kilimanjaro. At 4,556 meters, Mount Meru is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa and is located in the Arusha National Park.
1230 Hours: Lunch is served at Momela Wildlife Lodge.
1400 Hours: Another game drive in the park is planned. Hatari was filmed on location in Tanganyika (now Arusha National Park, Northern Tanzania).
Hatari is a 1962 American film directed by Hawks and starring John Wayne. Marion Mitchell Morrison, born Marion Robert Morrison, better known by his stage name John Wayne, was an American film actor, director, and producer.
He epitomized rugged masculinity and has become an enduring American icon. He is famous for his distinctive voice, walk, and height. The title means “danger” in Swahili, which was mentioned in the film as well.
Portraying a group of hunters, the film presents an interesting antiquated portrait of Africa still dominated by non-Africans. The film is extremely popular because of the dramatic wildlife chases and the magnificent backdrop scenery of Mount Meru, a dormant volcano.
1800 Hours: Our Arusha National Park 1-Day Safari ends in Arusha/ Moshi town in the evening.
