Arusha National Park Day Safari Canoeing Trip (2.5 hours canoeing & 4-6 hours game drive/walking)

Experience the best of the renowned Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit on this excellent-value Tanzania canoeing and game-drive excursion in Arusha National Park.

Arusha National Park is located 29 kilometers east of Arusha city and approximately 60 km from Kilimanjaro International Airport.   Enjoy a peaceful and scenic Canoeing Safari following the shorelines of small Momella Lake.

On this 2-hour canoe safari, you can view buffalo, bushbuck, giraffes, hippos, and many water birds living in and close to the water. The duration is 2 hours, and the minimum age for children is 8 years.

The Momella Lakes comprise multiple lakes. Underground water channels primarily feed the lakes, and water levels are supported by rainfall throughout the year. The water entering the lake is rich in minerals, attracting a variety of bird species, including flamingoes, little grebes, herons, Egyptian geese, and more.

A canoe safari is an excellent way to view wildlife in their natural habitat while being somewhat physically active. The trip circumnavigates the entire Little Momella Lake and takes about 2.5 hours. Around every bend, there are many different vistas.

You will be within a few yards of several giraffes at the water’s edge, drinking and watching, with considerable interest, as you glide by the many birds.  You may also see a lazy cape buffalo lounging on the bank, within spitting distance, or even sharing the same territory as a hippo family.

Other notable photographic opportunities include waterbuck, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and bushbuck. There are more than 600 bird species in the park. On clear days, one can see Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro in the distance – all from the exciting luxury stable two-person canoes.

Guests canoe on their own canoes around the various small bays in the lake, finding new adventures around every corner. Arusha National Park is home to many beautiful, tall, blonde giraffes, which are also seen near the lakes.

0900 Hours: After a presentation on safety procedures, you will canoe for 2.5 Hours on the Small Momella Lake, with great views of the forest backdrop.

A canoe safari is an excellent way to view wildlife in their natural habitat while being somewhat physically active. The trip circumnavigates the entire Little Momella Lake and takes about 2.5 hours. Around every bend and there are many, a different vista.

The perspective, from essentially ground level, is entirely different from that offered on foot or in a vehicle, and the opportunity to get in some fairly rigorous exercise (if you’re of a mind to do so) is extremely welcome after so many hours in an airline seat.

You will be within a few yards of several giraffes at the water’s edge, drinking and watching, with considerable interest, as you glide by the many birds.  You may also see a lazy cape buffalo lounging on the bank, within spitting distance, or even sharing the same territory as a hippo family.

1200 Hours: After your canoeing experience, enjoy a picnic lunch by the water.

1300 Hours: After lunch, you enjoy an afternoon game drive. There is a small crater to visit where one can see both Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro if the weather is good.
