Basecamp Wilderness is tucked deep within the tranquil Saddle Valley of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. This intimate, eco-luxury tented camp channels the ambient spirit and romance of a bygone era, offering an exclusive, off-the-grid escape far from the busier regions of the Maasai Mara.
With no permanent structures and a design that blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, the camp offers what many consider the truest form of safari, a return to nature defined by uninterrupted space, silence, and breathtaking sunrise views over the savannah.
While its atmosphere belongs to the classic safaris of the past, Basecamp Wilderness takes a highly progressive approach to responsible tourism. As a founding member of the Naboisho Conservancy, the camp operates with a profoundly light environmental footprint, relying entirely on solar power, rainwater harvesting, and biodegradable practices.
Beyond its environmental commitment, the camp is deeply rooted in community empowerment. With over 80% of the staff coming from the local Maasai landowning community, guests are invited into a genuine cultural exchange. From throwing seedballs to re-green degraded landscapes during game drives to gathering around the campfire for traditional tribal storytelling, Basecamp Wilderness offers a transformative Kenyan safari that connects you deeply to both the wildlife and the people of the Mara.
Location & Accessibility
Hidden within the Saddle Valley, Basecamp Wilderness enjoys a prime, secluded location within the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Bordering the main Maasai Mara National Reserve, this 50,000-acre private conservancy limits visitor numbers, offering guests an incredibly exclusive, uncrowded safari experience with a front-row seat to pristine wilderness and spectacular, light-pollution-free night skies.
