Chada Katavi Camp Tanzania

Chada Katavi Camp Tanzania is a seasonal tented camp on the edge of Chada Plain in the heart of Tanzania’s Katavi National Park. The camp sits under a shady canopy of acacia and tamarind trees overlooking the wide Chada Plain and is a hub of wildlife activity.

Flight from Arusha in a small plane takes approximately three hours. Ikuu airstrip is the closest airstrip and is situated about 30 minutes drive from the camp.

Katavi is well known for its high levels of wildlife. The seasonally flooded grasslands surrounding the lakes hold an extraordinary concentration of water birds – as well as large herds of buffalo, elephants, and antelope rarely seen in other parts of Tanzania. 

Chada Katavi Camp Tanzania offers a traditional safari experience, with only 6 en-suite safari tents with large shade net windows to let in a lot of light and cool breeze. In every tent, there’s a double bed or twin bed, bedside tables and lighting, a couple of luggage racks, a writing desk and chair, a storage unit, and colorful rugs on the canvas floor.

Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, this has an eco-flush toilet, a washbasin, and an outdoor bucket shower!

Chada’s communal lounge and dining areas occupy a tent apiece, also elevated above ground level on the decking that links them together. The lounge space is known as the library, and it contains ample comfortable seating around coffee tables and a good selection of reading material.

In the dining tent, there’s a large table and chairs for communal meals. Lounge and dining furniture is set up on the deck too, for a little alfresco relaxing and dining. Breakfast & lunch are provided in camp or during early morning game drives.

Dinner is always served in camp, and it’s a lavish three courses. There’s a campfire here too, where guests gather for pre-dinner drinking and swapping of safari stories.

Activities available at the camp include; bird watching, game drives, game viewing, safaris, Birding, fly camping, and nature walks. Katavi boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in all of Safari Africa.

Check-in – Check-out Time

* Rooms will be available from 1300hrs on the day of arrival. Early check-in will be subject to the manager’s discretion on the day of arrival
* Rooms must be vacated by 1000hrs. Clients wishing to keep their rooms for longer will be charged 75% of the room rate in the High Season and 50% in the Low Season

Children’s Rates & Policy

* The minimum age is 12 years to 21 years
* Child park entry and camping/concession fees apply for up to 16 years
* Children aged 12 years and under must share a room or family tent/room with an adult
* Children under 12 years are not permitted to walk, chimp, or fly camp due to safety reasons
* A child occupying a single room will be charged at the full adult rate plus a single supplement

Family Rooms & Triple – Family rooms sleep 2 Adults and 2 Children

*  The camp can accommodate up to two triples in each camp – the third bed in a room is suitable for up to 16 years only and we do not allow 3 adults in a triple
