This 2-day Kilimanjaro hike follows the Marangu Route, the oldest and most popular route up Mount Kilimanjaro sometimes called the “Coca Cola” route. On this trip, you will hike on the Marangu route and spend one night at Mandara hut.
The following day you will hike towards Horombo hut before returning to Mandara hut for lunch and then hiking back. You will NOT reach the summit. Climbing or trekking Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania East Africa is truly the trip of your lifetime.
For some reason, not everyone looks forward to trek to the top of Kilimanjaro famously known as Uhuru Peak which stands at 5895 meters above sea level. Some people just wanted to get a chance to experience this majestic mountain without reaching Uhuru Peak.
After pick up from Arusha city, you will be transferred to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1840m). Upon arrival at the Kilimanjaro National Park, we complete the necessary paperwork before starting our hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The trek soon takes us into the dense rain forest where we are surrounded by ancient trees draped with moss, giant ferns, lichen, and other indigenous vegetation. Walking through the rainforest we keep a lookout for black and white colobus monkeys, as well as other wild animals.
After a 4-hour walk, we reach our first overnight stop, the Mandara Hut (2670m). Here we rest before visiting Maundi Crater with our mountain guide. From the crater, we enjoy wonderful views of the Kenyan interior, before returning to Mandara Hut for dinner and our overnight stay.
The Marangu route is unique in offering the luxury of sleeping huts at all of the camp stops along the way. The Mandara has 60 beds and is equipped with comfortable bunk beds each with a sponge mattress and pillow. Bottled water, soft drinks, and even beer are usually available at the hut.
The huts on the Marangu trail are communal and are fitted with solar-powered lights. The bathrooms of the huts lower down on the slopes feature running water.
The following day continuing our Marangu hike up Kilimanjaro, towards Horombo hut encampment on a route that will take about 3 to 4 hours up. The climb will take us through the lower heathland with small shrubs being the main vegetation. Views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing.
After getting magnificent views of the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in the morning sunrise, we will start to retrace our steps (2+ hours down), heading back down to Mandara Huts for lunch then head back into the tropical rainforest reaching the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m).
At the gate, we say goodbye to our mountain guides and transfer back to Arusha bringing our memorable 2-day Kilimanjaro Hike via Marangu Route to a close.
