Enkopiro Camp Maasai Mara

Enkopiro Camp Maasai Mara is a luxury safari accommodation located within the Ololasurai Wildlife Conservancy, a community-based group conservancy in the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp sits in an elephant corridor between the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the Olarro Plains just a few kilometers from the reserve (via the Sekenani gate) and very close to the Siana Springs Airstrip.  The same airstrip serves fly-in guests staying at Enkopiro Camp, Siana Springs Camp, Mara Bushtop, Porini Main Camp, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara, Leleshwa Camp, and the neighboring communities. Ololasurai Conservancy offers superb game viewing, hosting high numbers of buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, leopards, giraffes, and other plains games. The abundance of herbivores attracts healthy populations of predators. The Conservancy is also an elephant corridor that offers guests the opportunity to enjoy big herds of elephants during some seasons.

Enkopiro tented camp offers a genuine African safari experience in the unspoiled Mara ecosystem and is located about 270 km from Nairobi (about 4.5 hours by road) and 45 minutes by Air. Enkopiro Camp has 5 intimate and cozy walk-in safari tents under the tall Acacia trees (tents can be double rooms or triple rooms while one tent is the Family unit, with two ensuite bedrooms with a private bathroom and shower for comfort. The tents are spacious and well-appointed and are equipped with electricity, hot water, and WiFi.

Enkopiro Camp activities include morning and afternoon 4×4 safari game drives, night Game drives, bird watching, and watching the Great Wildebeest Migration between June and November each year, guided nature walks, horseback safaris, Hot Air balloon safari, sundowners, bush breakfast, bush lunch, and bush dinner, Masai village visits, day trips to the Masai Mara National Reserve, and day trips to the Mara River to see crocodiles and hippos.  

Enkopiro Camp dining tent has a large covered terrace bordering the entire interior space and has been designed to enjoy broad outdoor views during meals. With a simple and welcoming interior, adapted to a more traditional style evoking the expeditions of earlier safaris, the dining room is always a pleasure meeting and greeting point.

Enkopiro Camp offers full-day safaris to the Masai Mara National Reserve where game viewing is excellent all year round. The Reserve is located in the southwest of Kenya, along the northern border of Tanzania. On safari in the Masai Mara, you can expect to see the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino), and more.

The sweet short-grass savannahs of the Mara River basin are jam-packed with wildlife. Thousands of antelope from tiny dik-diks to gazelles and eland intermingle with zebra, wildebeest, and other large herbivores like giraffes, buffalo, and elephants.

Home of Disney’s Big Cat Diaries, the Masai Mara is renowned for its large pride of lions, cheetahs, and leopards as well as spotted hyenas and jackals. In recent years with the success of conservation efforts, African wild dogs – the rarest and most elusive of them all – have returned to the area, albeit seen infrequently.

For avid birders, the Masai Mara is home to around 450 resident species including large terrestrial species like ostriches and kori bustards, almost 60 species of raptors including the impressive bateleur, long-crested eagle and vultures as well as a plethora of smaller colorful and diverse species like lilac-breasted rollers and violet-backed starlings.

The best time for birding coincides with the wet season from November to April when European and North African species descend on Masai Mara to breed. The highlight of any Masai Mara safari in Kenya is however the arrival of the massive herds of wildebeest and zebra between August and November.

These mega herds arrive as part of the wildebeest Great Migration between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. Lucky safari adventurers will get to witness the adrenaline-fuelled crossing of the Mara River, a life-and-death drama that plays out between the wildebeest and hungry crocodiles that lie in waiting.
