Gorilla Safari Lodge Bwindi Uganda

Gorilla Safari Lodge is a 4-star lodge on the boundary line of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Rushaga Sector), a primeval forest and lush jungle region in southwest Uganda. The lodge overlooks the Tropical Rain Forest, approximately 5 minutes from the park entrance. 

This national park is home to wild gorillas, forest elephants, and 23 species of birds endemic to the area. Located a 5-minute walk from the briefing point for trekking makes it a sought-after lodge for gorilla safaris.

The lodge is a 1 1⁄2 hour scenic drive from the Kisoro airstrip – accessible from Entebbe Airport. The driving time from Kigali to Gorilla Safari Lodge ranges from 4 – to 6 hours while Kampala is about 7 – 9 hours.

Gorilla Safari Lodge’s main lodge area houses the dining room, a relaxation lounge, a deck/big balcony, where you can sit to sunbathe and also have your meals outside, a spa treatment room, and a quaint nook where the bar is situated. WiFi in the main area.

This remote lodge comprises 21 individual units, each with private wooden balconies overlooking the wilderness and named after individual gorillas or their tribes. 3 of these units are inter-leading rooms, making them ideal for families. 

Another 2 rooms are joined but aren’t inter-leading. The lodge is also well equipped for disabled guests, 2 rooms have been designed for wheelchair access with wider doors & bathrooms. Rooms are either twin or double, Each room has a wooden balcony with a view.

The architecture and decor are comfortable, and all amenities from home are provided. Rooms have solar-powered lighting, an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold water, and flush toilets. Each unit is designed to look like a stand-alone log cabin that blends in with the surrounding rainforest, ensuring that the lodge does not look out of place in its wild surroundings.

Cobbled paths with wooden banisters join the well-appointed rooms, each of which has been named after individual gorillas or gorilla tribes. Some of the units come with a deep-set stand-alone bath and a fireplace. Other lodge facilities include; Massage, spa treatments & a Honeymoon room.

Activities available from Gorilla Safari Lodge include; Gorilla Trekking, Gorilla Habituation, Guided community walks, Batwa Pygmies, Mountain Biking with Guide, Guided Forest walks to the Bayenda Falls, Biking, etc.

Children Policy

* Children aged 4 and younger stay free of charge
* The minimum age for chimpanzee trekking is 12 years
* Children aged 5 – 12 pay 50% of the adult rate when sharing with adults
* Children aged 13 and over are considered adults and pay the adult rate
* Children aged 5 – 12 pay 70% of the adult rate when staying in their own room
* Children of all ages are welcome at Gorilla Safari Lodge, but they aren’t able to trek with the gorillas

Gorilla Permits

* Gorilla Habituation Permit costs 1,500 US Dollars and a 25 US Dollars service fee – per person
* Golden Money Trekking Permit costs 110 US Dollars and a 15 US Dollars service fee – per person
* Golden Money Habituation Permit costs 150 US Dollars and a 15 US Dollars service fee – per person
* The gorilla permit costs 700 US Dollars and a 25 US Dollars service fee. This is per person per trek and excludes the porter fee and tipping/gratuities for the guides
* Permits are at the Rushaga Sector or Nkuringo Sector. Should these be sold out permits can be purchased for the Nkuringo Sector which attracts a surcharge of 150 US Dollars per 4 people for the additional transfer to the start.
