Half-Day Kigali City Tour Rwanda: Set out on a half-day tour of Kigali to discover Kigali: Rwanda’s city of hills. Our Kigali Half Day City Tour is the best way to see and experience Kigali in a short time.

Spend the morning exploring Kigali and taking in the highlights which include the Presidential Palace Museum where you get a chance to visit the former statehouse as well as gain an overview of Rwanda’s history.

You also visit some of the flying debris of the FALCON 50 presidential plane that went down on 6th April 1994. The tour also includes a visit to the Natural History Museum also known as ‘Kandt House’ dedicated to Dr. Richard Kandt a German doctor and explorer who embarked on an exploration of Rwanda in 1897, searching for the source of the Nile River.

It showcases many specimens and replicas of the natural wonders of the country.  The Kigali Genocide Memorial is also visited. This is the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. It honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building.

Lastly, we visit the bustling Kigali Craft market – an excellent way to familiarize yourself with traditional Rwandan arts and crafts, as well as being a great place to do some souvenir shopping. We have lunch at the famous ‘Hotel Rwanda’, which was featured in a 2004 film about a Hutu who is the manager of a hotel in Kigali, Rwanda during the 1994 genocide.

While striving to protect his family and hundreds of Tutsi refugees from the Hutu mass murderers, he faces an additional struggle to overcome international indifference to the country’s plight.

Half Day Kigali City Tour Rwanda | Places of Interest

Your half-day tour covers some of the most historically and culturally significant sites in the Rwandan capital. The exact order of your tour will depend upon your start time, but your tour will include the following activities:

Natural History Museum: Formerly known as the Kandt House, the Natural History Museum was built by the German explorer, Richard Kandt. The building itself has special significance as the first modern house built in what is today Rwanda.

This historic home is home to an exhibition that aims to document the natural beauty of Rwanda from its geology all the way to its flora and fauna. There is also an attached snake exhibition in which visitors can see some of Rwanda’s slithering residents up close.

Genocide Memorial: No visit to Rwanda would be complete without paying a visit to the heart-wrenching Genocide Memorial.

Part heartfelt tribute and part educational experience, this memorial recounts the tale of the infamous 1994 Rwandan Genocide, discusses the work being done to heal the country today, and offers a window into the people whose lives were irreversibly changed by the Genocide.

Craft Market: The Kigali craft markets are an excellent way to familiarize yourself with traditional Rwandan arts and crafts, as well as being a great place to do some souvenir shopping.

Mille Collines Hotel (Hotel Rwanda): If you’re feeling puckish, your half-day tour can include a stop at the historic ‘Hotel Rwanda’. Still a classy hotel to this day, the Mille Collines Hotel can be included on your tour for tea or coffee, a cold drink, or a delicious buffet lunch.

Visit Mille Collines Hotel which was featured in the movie – Hotel Rwanda which was a rescue point during the Rwandan massacre.
