Jua House Lamu Island

Jua House Lamu is a bed and breakfast guest house located in Shela village on Lamu Island, only 10 minutes away from the beach. The best way to get to Lamu is by air, from Nairobi, Malindi, Mombasa, and Diani beach. Alternatively, one can access the island through a dhow ferry, a yacht, or a boat ride, which takes around one hour.

Lamu Island is home to sandy beaches, coconut and mango plantations, and Old Town. This medieval town started as a Swahili settlement in the 14th century and was then visited by the Portuguese, Turks, and Arabs, all of whom left their influence on the culture.

Even today, the people of Lamu believe in custom and tradition, so, there are no vehicles on the island; tourists can find only dhows and donkeys as the mode of travel.

The interior design combines traditional Swahili woodcraft, African style, and a touch of modern artistry. From the two roof-top terraces one has amazing views of the dunes, the sea, and over the islands of Lamu and Manda.

Jua house offers 5 Double Rooms, 1 Single Room, and a Rooftop suite. Each floor provides a comfortable chill-out lounge. The double rooms are equipped with king-size or twin beds. All rooms have their own private bathrooms with organic products for hair and body.

The rooms are on 3 different floors. Each floor has a spacious chill-out space with a breakfast table for six, a fridge, and an electric kettle for tea and coffee. There is free Wi-fi on every floor. The rooftop suite has a kitchenette and a private balcony with an outdoor shower. Enjoy the 360 degrees-view from our rooftop terraces!

Breakfast  – the house provides a variety of homemade products such as jam, granola, and yogurt. Fresh fruit, eggs, and pancakes are also on the menu. The in-house bakery supplies baguette and sourdough bread every morning, as well as cakes for the daily 4 o´clock afternoon coffee/tea on the rooftop.

Activities available in Lamu include visiting the Old Town, Sailing a Dhow, Visit Shela Village, Enjoy the Cuisine, Visit the Lamu Fort, Visit Manda Island, Walk Along the Beaches, Going to the Ruined City of Takwa, Visit Lamu Museum, etc.

Lamu has a lot to offer to both solo and group travelers. It is known to host international celebrities owing to its perfect blend of seclusion and discreteness. Most of the buildings and houses date back to the 17^th century and will make you feel like you have just stepped into hundreds of years of history.
