Katara Lodge Queen Elizabeth Park Uganda offers luxurious accommodation situated on the Great Rift Valley escarpment with uninterrupted views of the savannah, Lake Edward, and the Virunga and Rwenzori mountain range beyond. Katara Lodge is located 16km from the Katunguru gate of the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Katara Lodge is located just off the main Mbarara – Kasese highway, about 100km north of Mbarara. The lodge can be reached by both air and road. Kasese Airport is the nearest airstrip from the camp, about 2.5 hours to the camp. It is also possible to charter a flight to Kihihi from Entebbe or various locations around Uganda or other major hubs in East Africa.

Queen Elizabeth National Park’s varied habitats, which include open savannah, dense papyrus swamps, crater lakes, the extensive Maramagambo Forest, and the forested Kyambura Gorge, are home to almost 100 mammal species and over 600 bird species.

Katara Lodge Queen Elizabeth Park Uganda offers accommodation in 8 luxurious thatched cottages (7 regular cottages and 1 family cottage), on a beautiful stretch of hills overlooking the open savannah in a serene and relaxing atmosphere.

The regular cottages have 1 large open sleeping and sitting area, with a double bed and a four-poster star bed that can be wheeled out onto the veranda to sleep directly under the starlit African sky.  The bathrooms are luxuriously fitted – the romantic roll-top bath, or the invigorating rain shower, provide a perfect way to unwind after a thrilling day on safari.

The family cottage has 2 separate bedrooms with a shared sitting area and bathroom. It has a double bed in one bedroom, and two beds (one is 3x6ft and the second 4x6ft) in the other bedroom which can accommodate up to three small children. In addition, the family cottage comes with a small private outside sitting area with a swing coach and 2 hammocks.

Each spacious cottage was handcrafted using locally available materials and carved into the hillside by the Katara village community. The cottages combine wooden floors, grass-thatched roofs, and canvas that can be folded away for uninterrupted views of the park stretching out below. There is a swimming pool, a restaurant, a bar, and a dining area.

Activities available from Katara Lodge Queen Elizabeth Park Uganda include; swimming, game drives, bird watching, the famous launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel, chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge, and forest walks in the Kalinzu or Maramagambo forests.
