Days 5, 6 & 7: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast on day 5, you will depart by road to the Serengeti plains with a stop at Olduvai Gorge. The Serengeti is arguably the most impressive wildlife sanctuary in the world. At certain times of the year these vast, seemingly unending, plains are inhabited by enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra. In the calving season (February-March) the herds concentrate on the Ndutu and Salei plains attracting the attention of predators like lions, cheetahs and hyenas. You will spend three nights at Grumeti River Tented Camp (depending upon the time of year other lodges or camps may be suggested) – a small luxury camp situated in a remote valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti, overlooking a tributary of the Grumeti River. The camp has 10 private walk-in tents with en suite facilities. Activities include game drives in the Serengeti. There is also a pool.

Experience the real Africa sleeping under canvas and waking up to spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. A bit of luxury and seclusion away from the bustle of the main lodges, guests are accommodated in fifteen permanent walk-in tents under thatch roofs with en suite facilities. Set at the edge of the park you will enjoy game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, cultural excursions, and guided walks. The camp has a pool.

Days 10, 11 & 12: Masai Mara Game Reserve

On Day 10 you will be transferred to Amboseli Airstrip to board your scheduled flight to Nairobi. In Nairobi, you will change planes and fly to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Upon arrival, you will be met and enjoy a short wildlife Game Drive before lunch at Governor’s Il Moran Camp. The Camp is comprised of ten tents, all facing the Mara River. The ten tents consist of a large wooden framed bed, carpets, furnishings, and a very large bathroom with a separate shower, bath, bidet, toilet, and sink. The main tented camp area consists of a tented lounge with comfortable chairs and pillows and a dining tent.

Our African Spice Safari professional driver Guide will astonish you with his bush knowledge and expertise: vultures will lead them to a hyena kill, and a warning cry from a mother wildebeest reveals a leopard stalking through the grass. For the experience of a lifetime, drift the dawn over the magnificent plains of the Masai Mara in a hot air balloon (at extra cost). Then enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush at the landing site, before returning to camp on a wildlife viewing drive.

Leave your vehicle behind and take a walking safari with one of the camp’s armed guides for the true thrill of the bush – you’ll experience the untamed beauty of the Mara. You’ll track wildlife, unsure what waits around the next corner, giraffe, buffalo, or lion. You’ll catch the scents and sounds of wild Africa. Surrounding the Mara are the lands of the Masai tribe, a tall, proud race of warriors. Herding cattle and goats, they’ve lived among the animals for centuries. Enjoy visiting Masai villages to see a way of life that’s survived almost unchanged for generations.

Dinners are served privately at your tent, by the outdoor fire or communally in the dining area – you decide each evening what you would prefer. There is no fence so wildlife is free to wander through at any time.
