0730 Hours: After breakfast at your Kisumu hotel/ residence, our 1 Day Ndere Island tour from Kisumu transfers you to Kaloka Beach to take a boat ride to Ndere Island. The park is an island covering only 4.2 square km² and is located off the northern shores of Lake Victoria.

A boat ride from Kisumu takes about 2 hours. If you travel by boat from Kisumu, it is a nice experience to be on the water, but remember to bring sunscreen and a hat. By road, the park is about an hour’s drive outside of Kisumu through the most beautiful/ interesting area, about 50 km away from Kisumu City (an hour’s drive).

0930 Hours: Arrive at Ndere Island and take a walking/hiking tour of the small Island, accompanied by an armed park ranger. Ndere Island is generally a hill (maximum Elevation: 1,228 meters/4,028 feet). After a kilometer of hiking, you will get to the top of the hill. Looking around, a 360-degree view of Lake Victoria is overwhelming. From this viewpoint, one can see distant Kisumu skyscrapers and parts of Uganda.

Ndere Island offers some of the most beautiful views of Lake Victoria. The major attractions in this park include good views of Homa Hills. The park also offers great scenic views of 7 surrounding mini-islands, namely Mnara, Maboko, Kagera, Mageta, Rambungu, Imra, and Ochola, amongst others.

During your nature walk, you will encounter wildlife such as De brazza monkeys, Olive baboons, Sitatunga antelopes, Hippos, Impalas, Monitor lizards, and a variety of fish species.
