The proximity to Lake Victoria gives the town a special feel and it is fascinating to wander along the shoreline to explore the daily life of the people here. Kisumu is the stronghold of the Luo tribe and Siaya District, not far from Kisumu, became the Centre of attention as the American President Barack Obama was elected, as his father was a Luo and came from this part of Kenya.

0730 Hours; Kisumu Day Trips Kisumu City Tour Full Day Excursion offers the very best attractions of Kisumu city in one jam-packed day of a boat ride on Lake Victoria for wildlife and bird watching, history of Kisumu, the Luo Tribe, and their lifestyle.
You take a short drive/ walk to the jetty to take a boat ride on Lake Victoria – the second largest freshwater lake in the world for a boat ride/ sunrise cruise for bird watching (300 + bird species), birds feeding, and hippo watching.
1000 hours; you will then proceed to Dunga fishing village where you will meet the local fishermen and fishmongers. You will get to interact with the fishermen to learn the secrets of their trade which is their lifeline for sustainability.
The fish business has also contributed largely to the escalating of the HIV/ AIDS pandemic apart from being a source of income. After the fishing village, you return to the jetty and take a drive down through the city on your way to the Kisumu Museum where you’ll learn about the history of the region and the local Luo tribe.
Kisumu Museum has varieties of interesting animal exhibits, including a stuffed lion pouncing on a stuffed Wildebeest. Other artifacts include archeological findings as Western Kenya has several digs with findings that date back over 1.5 million years.
There are ethnographic exhibits and a display of dominant Luo tribe musical instruments and their traditional culture. After the Museum visit, you will take a tour of a Masai Souvenir Market for some gift shopping, then followed by a fascinating guided stroll around the bustling municipal food market.
1300 Hours: Next is lunch at a hotel/ lodge, lake-side fish restaurant, or local barbeque joint. The rest of the afternoon is spent in the tranquil setting of the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary on the banks of Lake Victoria.
Follow the many trails around the park, or simply sit quietly in the shade down by the Lake and let the wild impala and zebra roam closer. Kisumu Impala Park is a game sanctuary and an animal orphanage home to the rare Sitatunga antelope.
The Kisumu Impala Wildlife Sanctuary was opened in 1992 with the intention of protecting a herd of impala and serving as a safe grazing ground for hippopotamus from Lake Victoria. Spread over an area of less than one square kilometer, the Kisumu Impala Wildlife Sanctuary acts as a home for sick or orphaned animals like baboons, hyenas, and leopards which can be seen at a close range.
1600 Hours: The tour ends with a transfer back to your hotel/ residence.
