Kitani Bandas Tsavo West National Park are budget self-catering cottages located in the heart of Tsavo West National Park, the largest game reserve in East Africa. The park entrance to Mtito Andei is located approximately 40 km away from Severin Kitani Bandas.

Location & Accesibility

The closest airstrip is located within a short distance (approximately 25 minutes by car), and the flight from Mombasa to Tsavo West National Park takes around an hour. The Bandas are located less than 1 km from the Severin Safari Lodge.

The Kitani Bandas offer an authentic safari experience, located about 1.5 kilometers from the Severin Safari Lodge. A vehicle is required to reach the Bandas, as the route is not walkable.

Accommodation & Facilities

The 8 Kitani Bandas are equipped with a kitchenette featuring a fridge, plates, pots, cutlery, glasses, and cups, as well as small gas cookers and sinks. A table and chairs are at your disposal. Additionally, the bathroom features towels, hot and cold running water, a toilet, and a shower.

Kitani Self-Catering Bandas sleeps three people. These are provided with duvet covers and mosquito nets. From the roofed veranda, you look directly at your private fireplace and can watch the animals passing by. Kitani Bandas offers scenic views of the Tsavo West landscape, open savannah plains, and Africa’s tallest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Relax on your private, covered veranda overlooking a personal campfire, perfect for wildlife watching. Free Wi-Fi is available, and guests are welcome to use the pool and gym at the main camp.

Private parking is available adjacent to each Banda, and a room steward is on hand to assist. You also have access to the reception, restaurant, bar, and spa at Severin Safari Camp, some of which incur an additional charge.

Activities from Kitani Bandas include game drives, bird watching, camping, visiting nearby local villages, and visits to the Rhino Sanctuary.

The highlights of Tsavo West National Park include visiting Mzima Springs, the Shaitani lava flow, Lake Jipe, the Chyulu Hills, views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Chaimu crater, the Roaring Rocks, and the Taita Hills.

Besides the lions, the Park has animals such as Bush back, dik-dik, duikers, eland, gazelles, gerenuk, wildebeest, hartebeest, impala, klipspringer, lesser kudu, Oryx, steinbok, suni, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, hippos, black rhino, cheetah, aardwolf, caracal, hyena, lions, leopard, baboons. There are over 400 bird species recorded in Tsavo West National Park.

Kitani Bandas are budget self-catering cottages located in the heart of Tsavo West National Park, the largest game reserve in East Africa, approximately 250 km from Mombasa and Nairobi. The bandas are situated about 49 km from the Mtito Andei gate about 1 hour’s drive, and 5 km to  Mzima Springs while Poachers Lookout is only 2 km from the bandas. They have a majestic view of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

There are 8 Self-catering Cottages, all equipped with enough space for a maximum of 3 persons, a 4,5 sqm kitchenette with a fridge, tables, chairs, plates, pots, cutlery, glasses and cups, a little herd with gas and a washing basin. A table and chairs are at your disposal. Guests are welcome to prepare their own meals.

Additionally, there is a 5,7 sqm bathroom with towels and running hot and cold water, toilet and shower.  The sleeping rooms have a size of 25 sqm and can be equipped with up to 3 beds per cottage. These are provided with duvet covers and mosquito nets. From the roofed veranda, you look directly at your private fireplace and can watch the animals passing by.

The perfect base to discover the breathtaking landscape and animal kingdom on your own. Guests are allowed to use the free WIFI and the pool & gym at the nearby camp area. You will also find a private parking lot directly beside your banda as well as a room steward. The Kitani Lodge is situated about 1,5 km (800 meters) away from Severin Safari Camp.

Amongst others, you will find the reception, the Out of Africa Restaurant, the Thorn Tree Bar, and the KENBALI SPA here, which all can be used – partly for a surcharge. Kitani Banda’s are now affiliated with the nearby Severin Safari Camp. Guests are welcome to use the Severin Safari Camp facilities which are  There is also a small library.

Guests may have breakfast or delicious à la carte menus for lunch and dinner in the Out of Africa restaurant at Severin Safari Camp. The Thorn Tree Bar offers a variety of refreshments; early morning coffee or tea and refreshing cocktails in the evening. The wellness area; Kenbali Spa is an oasis of calm and relaxation, inspired by the African wilderness and ancient southeast Asian techniques for relaxation.

Kitani Bandas Tsavo West National Park activities include; game drives with a private guide, a sundowner at Poacher’s Lookout, guided nature walks with a Maasai guide, playing cards, and board games. A 4-hour game walk with a KWS ranger enables guests to get to learn how to track and follow the footprints of smaller and larger wild animals.

Guests can also take a trip to Mzima Springs, (only 5 km away) a set of crystal-clear ponds, fed by the meltwaters of Mount Kilimanjaro, in which the many hippos can be viewed from a submerged chamber.
