Kitich Forest Camp is an iconic classic safari accommodation located in a 180,000 Acre Section of the Northern Frontier District, Kenya’s remote Mathews Ranges North of Samburu, facing the Ngeng River and surrounded by green wooded hills and craggy peaks. Mathews Mountain Range also known as the Lenkiyio Hills faces the Ngeng River and is surrounded by green wooded hills and craggy peaks.

Kitich means “Place of happiness”. The camp is located 284 km from Nairobi. Flights land in Samburu National Reserve and a road transfer to the camp takes 2.5 hours. One could also land in Loisaba Conservancy and the transfer takes 3.5 hours to the camp. If you land in Sarara or Sera Conservancy the transfer will take about 2.5 hours to get to the camp.

Kitich Forest Camp Mathews Range Samburu

Kitich Forest Camp has 6 safari tents comprising 3 double tents and 3 twin tents. Each tent has its own private veranda overlooking the Ngeng River valley, frequented by elephants, painted dogs, buffalo, and antelope.

All tents are tasteful with wooden floors, beautiful rugs, furnished verandahs, and en-suite bathrooms with traditional safari “butler” showers, single-sink wooden vanity, and a long drop toilet. There is also an al fresco Shower. The main living area is one very large room used for dining and sitting. It also houses the bar and a fireplace is built naturally, with rocks and local wood.

The food is as good as it should be with an Italian food-lover overseeing it. A delicious mix of Italian and Middle Eastern cuisine, with barbecues too. With only a maximum of 12 guests here at any one time, meals are taken together, overlooking a lush Ngeng River.

Kitich Forest Camp Mathews Range Samburu Activities: Night game drives, guided nature walks, swimming in Rock Pools, bush picnics, Quad Biking, day game drives, sundowners, and cultural visits. The camp also hosts weddings, simple blessings, and the renewal of vows for guests. A blessing from a local chief is a long and colorful affair.
