Kobe Mara Safari Camp Masai Mara | Talek region on private land bordering Kenya's famous Masai Mara National Reserve | ~259 km (5 hrs) from Nairobi | (1–2 minute drive) from Zebra Barrier Gate | ~ 6 km (20 minutes drive) from Masai Mara Talek Gate | 15-minute drive from Mpaui Gate | 40 km (1 hrs) drive from Sekenani Main Gate | 45-minute flight from Nairobi's Wilson Airport followed by a 12 km ( 50 minutes drive) from Olkiombo Airstrip

Kobe Mara is a boutique Maasai-owned safari camp set on private land at the edge of the Maasai Mara. Perched on a ridge overlooking the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the Oloololo Escarpment, the camp is unfenced and open to the wild wildebeest drifting past, and a waterhole in front of the Kobe House veranda draws a steady procession of animals throughout the day. Because it sits just outside the reserve on private land, guests avoid park entry and community fees while still enjoying direct access to the reserve through the quiet Zebra Barrier gate.

Kobe Mara offers two accommodation options. Kobe House is a spacious, open-plan four-bedroom safari home in the heart of the bush, available on an exclusive, single-group basis, ideal for families and friends traveling together, with multiple seating and dining areas, sweeping sunset views, and full board, including meals and non-alcoholic drinks.

Kobe’s safari tents are comfortable two-person tents that pair a genuine bush experience with the choice of a full-board package or a self-catering kitchenette. Every stay is supported by the camp’s chefs, housekeeping, security team, and manager. The whole property can also be booked together for larger groups.

Kobe Mara was founded by Jacky Sairowua, a Maasai entrepreneur, who developed her family’s land in the heart of the Mara into the camp it is today. It is run almost entirely by a Maasai team, so a stay directly supports local livelihoods and community-driven conservation, and provides an authentic connection to the people and culture of the Mara, not only its wildlife.

The camp treads lightly: it is fully solar-powered, draws water from its own borehole, plants only native species without pesticides, furnishes with sustainable timber, and recycles waste in Nairobi while composting organic waste on site.

Days are spent on game drives into the reserve and across the surrounding wilderness, with sundowners, fireside evenings and Maasai cultural experiences back at camp. With reliable on-site connectivity, Kobe suits everything from a classic safari holiday to a Nairobi weekend escape or a longer stay while working remotely from the bush. The camp is reached by a 45-minute flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to nearby Mara airstrips, or around five to six hours by road.

Location & Accessibility

Kobe Mara Safari Camp sits right on the edge of the Maasai Mara, next to a small, quiet entry point called Zebra Barrier, putting camp guests just 1–2 minutes from the reserve boundary.

By Road (approximately 5–5.5 hours from Nairobi)

✓ Drive from Nairobi to Narok
✓ From Talek, turn right onto the C14 toward Aitong
✓ From Narok, follow the road toward Sekenani Main Gate
✓ Take a right just before reaching Sekenani Gate, in Sekenani town
✓ Follow the road until crossing the Simba Bridge, continuing on toward Talek
✓ A little less than 6 km from Talek, turn left onto the road marked by the first Kobe Mara sign
✓ Continue down this road for approximately 1.5 km, taking care not to bend right into Olare-Motorgi Conservancy
✓ Once Zebra Plains Camp is visible on the left, look for tracks bending right; don’t turn left into Zebra Plains Camp
✓ Within a few hundred meters, reach a small junction and follow the track right, marked “Zebra Barrier” with the small circular Kobe Mara sign
✓ Approximately 350 meters further, signs to Kobe Mara appear on the left; follow signage to either Kobe Camp or Kobe House depending on your booking

By Air (approximately 45 minutes from Nairobi)

Olkiombo Airstrip: the closest and most convenient airstrip, preferred by most guests
Olare Orok Airstrip: also nearby, usable for a small surcharge covering private conservancy access
Daily scheduled bush flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport: the quickest and most comfortable way to reach camp

✓ Flights into other Maasai Mara airstrips can also be accommodated, with pick-up arranged and transfer times varying by location
