Mabira Forest Uganda - Zip Lining 1 Day Tour

The Mabira Forest Uganda Zip Lining 1 Day Tour is a fun trip from Kampala to the Mabira Central Forest Reserve, located on the main KampalaJinja Highway in Mukono District. It is 54 km from Kampala’s City Centre and 26 km from Jinja Town.

Our main attraction on this tour is the Mabira Forest Canopy Super Skyway (canopy “zip-line” system), which sends you soaring between the tallest trees in the rainforest. Depart Kampala for a two-and-a-half-hour drive to Mabira forest camp, where Uganda’s largest zip line is located.

The forest is about 44 km east of Kampala and about 8 kilometers off the Kampala-Jinja highway. The 8 km dusty drive takes you through the large Lugazi sugar cane plantation before you reach the camp, which is sandwiched by tall trees in Uganda’s largest natural forest. The camp was established by the Mabira Forest Integrated Community Organisation to promote ecotourism.

Upon arrival, you attend a briefing session led by experienced zip-lining guides. The next is a 30-minute trek to the starting point, where there is a 12-meter-tall tree with a rope you climb to reach the first zip line platform.

(Note: your equipment can feel quite heavy on this walk. The highest platform is 40 meters high, offering a panoramic view of the forest.

The 250m line goes through ancient trees. It has five platforms with lines running above the tall trees and across the River Musamya. You bend your knees, squat, and release. The instructor gives you just a little push to start.

High in the canopy, you can enjoy views of the forest layers, mammals such as grey-cheeked Mangabeys and red-tailed monkeys, birds such as palm-nut vultures, African fish eagles, and great blue Turacos, and the roaring Griffin Falls, making your zip a memorable day!

The hike back from the zip-line passes the beautiful Griffin Falls and returns to the camp, which offers accommodation, meals, and mountain biking, among other activities. Finishing the whole course takes about 3 hours of fun.

Enjoy lunch in Mabira Forest at the Griffin Falls Camp Restaurant. After Lunch, you will take a walk around the camp and be given ample time to take pictures, return to the base to board the vehicle, and depart for Kampala.

Expect to arrive back in Kampala by 6.00 pm and be dropped off at the hotel.
