Mafia Island Lodge is a luxury lodge that stands amidst tall palms on a sandy beach in Chole Bay, in the heart of the marine park near Utende village on the South coast of Mafia. The lodge is set within the marine park looking over Chole bay.

Mafia Island lies approximately 25 kilometers off the Tanzanian coast, 130 kilometers from Dar es Salaam which takes approximately 35 minutes by air, and 45 minutes from the Selous Game Reserve and Zanzibar Island.

Mafia is reachable by light aircraft only. The resort is a 20-minute drive from Kilindoni, the main village, and the airstrip transfers can be arranged by Mafia Lodge. The lodge is closed most of April and May, and open from June on. 

Today Mafia is known as a beautiful Indian Ocean tropical resort that is famous for deep sea fishing and scuba diving. Aquatic life is abundant and the coral gardens are pristine due to the protection of the Mafia Island Marine Park.

The park is located between the Rufiji River delta to the west and the open Indian Ocean to the east. The dual influences of the river and the sea have combined to create rich and exceptional biodiversity with unique landscapes under the sea and on dry land.

Mafia Island Lodge has 30 comfortable rooms that are located among the coconut trees. All rooms have their own veranda overlooking the bay or the large park that surrounds us, and hot water is available in every room.

The different categories are 10 standard rooms that can be either twin or double, connecting the beds, with air conditioning and fan, 3 families composed of two connected rooms, one double and one twin with two separate bathrooms, fan, and communicating veranda.

There are also 14 superior rooms, double or twin, all with air conditioning and fan, 3 suites, privileged in the seafront location, with large private and equipped garden, air conditioning and fan, large bathroom and walk-in closet, fridge, safe and private coffee corner.

The main lodge has a relaxing atmosphere with a large open restaurant, bar, and lounge area. Board games, table tennis, a table pool, and volleyball are also available. A small library with 200 books in different languages is available in our lounge. Other facilities include a gift shop and laundry service.

The beach bar is located on the beautiful beach, the only one in Chole Bay unaffected by the tide. The beach bar offers you the possibility to order every kind of food from our à la carte menu from morning to evening, complemented by a fully-stocked bar.

Activities available from Mafia Island Lodge include; Diving, snorkeling, whale sharks excursion, whale watching, sand bank trip, Chole Island tour, fishing, and biking.  Nature trails and bird watching are also organized. Note, all excursions are weather and tide-dependent.
