Mara Explorer Camp is an exclusive five-star safari camp located on the banks of the Talek River right in the center of the famous Masai Mara National Reserve. The superb setting and location of the camp make for a wonderful game-watching experience, including from the comfort of your bed, bath, or verandah.

The camp can be reached either by road or by air. The distance from Nairobi to Masai Mara is approximately 280 km. It usually takes around 5-6 hours by road while flying time takes approximately 45 minutes. Scheduled flights from Nairobi, Mombasa, Nanyuki, and Samburu land at Ol Kiombo Airstrip just 2 km from the camp.

Being so close to both the Mara and Talek rivers, the Mara Explorer provides guests with an ideal opportunity to view the annual migration crossings from the comfort of their verandah armchair. Outside of the migrations season, the area offers some of the world’s most rewarding big cat sightings.

The camp has 10 luxurious and well-spaced tents, each with its own private river frontage and views over the River Talek’s wildlife-rich southern banks. Seven of the tents have queen size beds, while three have twin beds.

The tents have been specially designed to open up to the sky and, on a deck on one side, a Victorian claws-foot bathtub offers secluded open-air bathing – and a unique new perspective of the African bush.

Mara Explorer Camp dining area shares the deck with the lounge and features an exclusive menu of the freshest home produce from the kitchen garden complimented with a gastronomical journey of foods – succulent meats and tangy fish; delicious vegetarian dishes and refreshing salad.

Meals can also be enjoyed on your veranda, or at one of a series of specially-selected bush sites close to the camp. The camp bar provides beautiful river views and a well-stocked library, while the lounge area offers luxurious sofas for reading, playing board games, or swapping safari tales.

There is a shop with souvenirs and safari essentials at the sister camp (Mara Intrepids) next door. You can also use the swimming pool at Mara Intrepids as Mara Explorer does not have one. 

Mara Explorer Camp activities include game drives, birding, star gazing, Maasai culture visits, nature walks, sundowners, photographic safaris, bush dinners, and bush breakfasts.

Non-Residents Accommodations Rates Per Night Include:
