Our 1-day Kilimanjaro Hike follows the Marangu Route, the easiest and shortest route to the summit of Kilimanjaro however, on this particular trip our aim is NOT to reach the summit. Marangu Route is sometimes called the “Coca Cola” and is the oldest and most popular route up Mount Kilimanjaro.

This short trek is geared for people who like to hike but reaching the summit isn’t a “must-do”, and allows one to experience the excitement of hiking on the highest peak on the African continent. All trekking inside of the Tanzania National Park requires the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and the Marangu route is the only route where short treks are allowed.

The day trip begins with a transfer from Arusha or Moshi to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate – Marangu Gate (1840m). Register at the park office, and then start hiking. This hiking trip to the first hut Mandara Hut (2670m) will allow you to have a feel of the mountain for one day and the hike through the rain forest will be breathtaking.

The trek soon takes us into the dense rainforest where we are surrounded by ancient trees draped with moss, giant ferns, lichen, and other indigenous vegetation. Walking through the rainforest we keep a lookout for black and white colobus monkeys, as well as other wild animals.

After a 4-hour walk, we reach Mandara Hut (2670m) where we have lunch. Here we rest before visiting Maundi Crater with our mountain guide. From the crater, we enjoy wonderful views of the Kenyan interior.

After lunch at Mandara Hut, we begin descending down back into the tropical rainforest reaching the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m) after taking about 2 hours. You will walk slowly as you enjoy the scenery and look for anything that you might have missed on your way up.

At the gate, we say goodbye to our mountain guide and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha bringing your memorable 1-day Kilimanjaro Hike via Marangu Route to a close.

0700 Hours: You will be picked from your hotel and drive to Marangu where the gate for Mt. Kilimanjaro National park is (1970 meters)

1000 Hours: At the gate you will meet with our well experienced guide who will give you brief information about the hike. You will walk for about 3-4 hours to the first hut (Mandara hut) and you will arrive there in the afternoon.

1330 Hours: Lunch will be served when you reach the hut. From the hut you have a great view over Moshi district.

1430 Hours: After your lunch your guide will give you a short walk to Maundi crater before walking down to Marangu gate. You will walk down to Marangu gate and this walk will take you about 2 hours walking slowly as you observe for anything that you might have missed on your way up.

1630 Hours: At Marangu National Park you will meet with transport from the hotel ready to take you back to the lodge.

1900 Hours: Return back to your hotel

* Lunch box with sandwiches, chocolate, groundnuts, biscuits, fruits, juice, boiled egg, piece of cake
* All our guides are charming, friendly, and well trained which will ensure you enjoy every step of your trek. N.B. if you need a guide who speaks your language fluently this can also be arranged at an extra fee
* One advantage of this day trip is that you will not be required to have any special mountain climbing gear. All that you need for this trek is comfortable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and a raincoat in case it rains on your way up
