Mufindi Highlands Lodge Tanzania

Mufindi Highland Lodge is a scenic lodge, built-in 1997 on the 2000 acre private estate around 100km southeast of Iringa in southern Tanzania. The Lodge is located 157 km from Ruaha National Park and 142 km from Iringa Town.

Nestled in the cool hills of the Southern Highlands, surrounded by pristine ancient forests and rolling tea plantations, Mufindi is the perfect break from the dust and heat of a safari.

Mufindi Highlands Lodge Tanzania has 10 cozy wooden chalets with either twin or double beds. With homely decoration and an en-suite bathroom, guests will immediately feel relaxed. The Chalet completes the accommodation with 2 huge bedrooms each with a bathroom with a shared upstairs lounge and balcony.

All of the chalets open out to stunning views across the valley and are generously spaced out across the hilltop.

The Lodge has a honeymoon suite complete with a log fire, and a similar room for celebrating anniversaries, but in this instance, the room has provision for the children!

The cabins are built from responsibly grown timber and the rocks are all local. Meats, dairy products, and organically grown vegetables are all produced on the working farm.

The main lodge has an inviting sitting room, with sofas and a small library surrounding a big open fire. Beyond this is the dining room, which has 180-degree views of the valley below. The whole lodge has a quaint and homely atmosphere that quickly seduces.

Upstairs is wooden clad, rather like an alpine chalet, with another living room with open fire, as well as separate sitting areas, a tv room, and billiards table. Out the front is a long veranda from which you can watch the sunset over the lakes.

Activities available from the lodge include; Horse Riding, Fly Fishing, Birding, Cultural Visits, Kayaking, Lawn Sports & farm activities. Mufindi is a working farm, and depending on the time of year, it is possible to see calves, piglets, foals, and lambs. The younger guests are encouraged to help feed the lambs and play with the puppies.

Nestled in the valley, clinging to a running brook, is the vegetable garden that supplies not just us at Mufindi, but also our safari camps and island lodge. An evening stroll through cabbages, onions, lettuces, and strawberries, as well as the unusual mountain paw-paw, is highly recommended.
