Nairobi Cultural Experience Shopping Day Tour is a full-day Nairobi tour that offers guests an opportunity to enjoy and learn about Kenyan culture by visiting an authentic Masai Village.
The tour also provides you time for shopping for a wide variety of items such as local handicrafts, traditional arts and crafts, paintings, clothing, jewelry, and homeware. After a visit to a Masai Village follows a sumptuous lunch at the Verandah Garden restaurant or the Tamambo Karen Blixen Restaurant.
Shopping places include Nairobi Masai Market, Marula Studios Store, Robert Glen Gallery, Collectors Den Store, Gallery Watatu, Gemini Desai Nairobi Utamaduni Craft Centre, and Kazuri Bead Factory among others.
Nairobi Cultural Experience Shopping Day Tour Itinerary
0800 Hours: Nairobi Cultural Experience Shopping Tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel/ residence. Today we travel from Nairobi to a Masai village (Manyatta) situated in Ngong Hills countryside.
The drive takes you to the Masai who are plain Nilotes – a tribe that has succeeded in maintaining their cultural identity and continues to lead a traditional pastoral life. Most Masai wears distinctive clothing usually red to discourage lion attacks. Their primary occupation is grazing cattle and goats in the open savannah.
In the village, they perform a traditional Masai dance and allow you into their cow dung huts. You enjoy speaking with them and learning about their culture.
1200 Hours: After the village tour we depart for lunch at one of the popular restaurants located in the Karen estate.
1300 Hours: Lunch will be at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden Restaurant or the Tamambo Karen Blixen Restaurant. The international menu at both restaurants offers a wide variety of menus with over 40 items. Special food theme outdoor barbecues or Mexican food buffets provide additional variety.
1400 Hours: After a sumptuous lunch we proceed to shop at Utamaduni Craft Centre which sells a huge variety of African Curios all under one roof.
Products include African Curios, African Masks, African rugs, African furniture, Ebony Furniture, African Antiques, African Jewelry, African Dolls, Safari Clothes, Kikoy, Sarong, beads, and much more!
Next, we visit Kazuri Bead Factory the home of beautiful hand-made beads produced by single mothers. Kazuri is a business that creates authentic African jewelry from clay. Kazuri is both a factory and a sales outlet for their products.
It employs a large number of single mothers in a warm and supportive work environment. The factory, which offers tours, has become a “must-see” for visitors to Kenya. Time permitting, we also visit Marula Studios Store, a Masai Market, and one or two stores close to the city centre.
1800 Hours: We return back to our hotel/ residence.
