Nairobi Day Tour Giraffe Centre
The Giraffe Centre, located in the Lang’ata suburb of Nairobi, is a conservation and education hub for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. A day tour here offers visitors the unique opportunity to hand-feed and interact with these gentle giants from elevated platforms.
The Giraffe Centre in Nairobi, located in Langata about 20 km from the city center, is a wonderful and refreshing experience during the African Spice Safaris excursion. The Nairobi Day Tour of the Giraffe Centre, also known as the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, offers a completely up-close and personal experience where guests can view and feed giraffes.
The center has rescued, hand-reared, and released around 500 orphaned giraffes back into the wild since opening in 1979. Young giraffes born at the Centre were translocated to Soysambu Ranch near Lake Elementaita, Kigio Conservancy near Gilgil, and Sergoit Ranch in Eldoret. Others were recently translocated to Mwea National Game Reserve and Ruma National Park.
Today, the Rothschild Giraffe population in Kenya is about 300. The Nairobi Day Tour of the Giraffe Centre combines conservation and education with a very hands-on experience for visitors. Not only can you observe the Giraffes in their natural habitat, but you can also get up close and personal.
From a raised wooden platform, you can observe, hand-feed, and pat the Giraffes. Standing 4 meters high, the giraffe’s eyes are beautiful. Kiss a Giraffe on our Nairobi Day Tour of the Giraffe Centre.
Getting covered in juicy Giraffe saliva as they use their gigantic tongues to lick tasty treats from your mouth is another experience altogether. The Giraffe Centre is a nonprofit organization whose main objective is to provide conservation education for schoolchildren and youth in Kenya.
All education programs are offered to them free of charge. The Giraffe Centre derives 90% of its funds from entrance fees and sales in the gift shop and teahouse. Therefore, our Nairobi Day Tour to the Giraffe Centre, along with purchases from the shop and teahouse, contributes immensely to conservation education for Kenyan youth.
The Giraffe Centre in Nairobi is open daily from 0900 Hours to 1700 Hours. Most visitors spend roughly 1 hour on-site, primarily interacting with and hand-feeding the giraffes from a raised wooden platform.
