✓ 1-Day Aberdare National Park Tour from Nanyuki offers a scenic 3.5-hour drive through thick rainforests, bamboo forests, and moorlands, home to elephants, black rhinos, leopards, and rare bongos.

The tour features game drives, spectacular waterfalls like Karuru, and lunch at historic locations such as the Treetops Lodge area. Beginning with an early-morning pick-up from your Nanyuki hotel/residence at 0700 Hours, followed by a drive to Aberdare National Park, arriving at 0830 Hours.

After registration, enter via the nearby Treetops or Ruhuruini Gate to begin the game drive. Your morning game drive explores the forested ravines and high moorlands in search of the Big Five (leopard, lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo) and endemic bird species.

At 1230 Hours, you have lunch at the Treetops lodge or with packed meals amidst the scenic, forested landscape. An afternoon game drive follows visiting scenic points like Karuru waterfalls (250m high) or Queen’s Cave. Later, at about 1600 Hours, depart the park, exit, and travel back to Nanyuki. At 1800 Hours, we drop you off at your hotel in Nanyuki. 

✓ 1-Day tour Meru National Park from Nanyuki is a popular “hidden gem” excursion, covering approximately 77 km (about a 1-hour and 15-minute drive) each way via the A2 and Meru-Maua Road.

Known as the setting for the book and movie Born Free, Meru National Park offers a rugged, uncrowded wilderness experience compared to more commercialised reserves. The tour begins at 0600 Hours after a pick up from your hotel in Nanyuki. Depart Nanyuki.

Enjoy views of Mount Kenya as you head east toward Meru. At 0730 Hours, arrive at Murera Gate (main entrance), complete park entry payments, and begin a morning game drive. Visit the Rhino Sanctuary to see black and white rhinos.

Explore the 13 rivers crisscrossing the park to spot hippos, crocodiles, and diverse birdlife. At about 1300 Hours, enjoy a picnic lunch at the designated site, either at Adamson’s Falls or the Tana River banks.

At 1400 Hours, enjoy an afternoon gamedrive, look for “Northern Specials” such as the Reticulated Giraffe and Grevy’s Zebra. Visit Elsa the Lioness’s grave. Later, at about 1600 hours, exited the park and began the drive back to Nanyuki. 1830 Hours arrive back in Nanyuki.

✓ 1-Day Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve Tour from Nanyuki is an ideal day trip, located approximately 40 km (about a 45–60 minute drive) away. As a vital wildlife corridor between Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and Mt. Kenya, it offers a unique mix of adventure and indigenous nature. 

Our 1-day tour to Ngare Ndare Forest from Nanyuki begins at 08000 Hours and ends at 1700 Hours, typically lasting 8-10 hours. While the drive from Nanyuki town to the forest gate is relatively short—roughly 45 to 75 minutes—the full experience includes several hours of hiking, swimming, and the canopy walk.

The trip begins at 0700 Hours and ends at 1800 Hours, and includes return transport from Nairobi, armed guide fees, entry fees, a 450m canopy walk, hiking to waterfalls, and swimming in azure-blue pools.

The tour packages include a packed picnic lunch, bottled water, and a stop at the Equator marker. Activities include a 450-meter-long suspended bridge canopy walkway, swimming and diving in the natural, crystal-clear blue water pools and waterfall, guided hike to walk among 200-year-old African Olive and Red Cedar trees with an armed guide, and spot wild animals such as buffaloes, colobus monkeys, and bushbucks, birdwatching (400+ species)

1 Day Ol Pejeta Conservancy Tour from Nanyuki. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is located just 17 km (a 30-minute drive) from Nanyuki town. As the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, it offers a high density of wildlife, including the “Big Five.”

The tour begins at 0600 Hours with a pick-up from your hotel in Nanyuki, followed by a transfer to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Upon arrival, you enter through the Ronkai Gate(closest to Nanyuki). Complete park entry formalities and begin a gamedrive.

0830 Hours visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and at 1030 Hours stop at the Morani Information Center & Baraka: Meet Baraka, the famous blind black rhino, and learn about rhino conservation at the information center.

At about 1230 Hours, you enjoy lunch at Sweetwaters Serena Camp while watching animals at the watering hole, or use the designated marshland picnic sites. In the early afternoon, you continue with a gamedrive search for the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant, and Rhino).

Ol Pejeta has the highest wildlife density in Kenya outside the Maasai Mara. At 1530 Hours, the endangered Northern White Rhinos Enclosure will see the world’s last two Northern White Rhinos (requires a separate booking and additional fee). Later, at 1630 Hours, you depart the park, exit, and return to Nanyuki in time for evening plans.

Our 1-Day Ol Jogi Conservancy Tour from Nanyuki primarily focuses on the Wildlife Rescue Centre (WRC), home to Africa’s only bear, and the unique geological formations known as the “Grand Canyons” of Laikipia.

The tour lasts between 6 and 8 hours and includes a guided tour of the rescue facilities, including meeting Potap (the only bear in Africa), interacting with rescued elephants Bubu and Maisha, and seeing the talking/dancing parrot.

The day tour begins at 0830 Hours, when you are picked up from your hotel in Nanyuki and then driven for approximately 45 minutes to the conservancy. Upon arrival, approximately at 1000 hours, check in at the gate.

Note that visitors must arrive by 1030 Hours to adhere to the Wildlife Rescue Centre’s visiting procedures, and then visit the education centre and meet rescued animals, including Potap the bear, the elephants Bubu and Maisha, and various primates and bird species.

1230 Hours, we enjoy lunch at a designated site within the conservancy or at a spot overlooking the plains. At 1330 Hours, we take a canyon exploration (a trail walk to the Ol Jogi Canyons, a mesmerizing ochre landscape created by centuries of water erosion).

At 1430 Hours, take a short game drive through the conservancy with opportunities to spot black and white rhinos, Grevy’s zebras, and reticulated giraffes. At 1530 Hours, you depart and begin the return journey to Nanyuki. At 1630 Hours, drop off at your residence or hotel in Nanyuki.

✓ 1 Day Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy with lunch at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club begins at 0830 Hours with a pickup from your residence, followed by a transfer to the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, approximately 10 km (20 minutes) from Nanyuki town. 

Upon arrival at 1000 Hours at the Mount Kenya Animal Orphanage, you enjoy a 1.5 to 2-hour guided tour of the orphanage where you meet the animals, hand-feed giraffes or llamas, and learning about the rewilding efforts for the Mountain Bongo.

After visiting the orphanage, you can walk or drive a short distance to the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club for a luxurious lunch thats starts at 1230 Hours. Later at 1430 Hours, you explore the hotel’s 100-acre manicured grounds, which include a hedge maze, a rose garden, and a 9-hole golf course.

At 1600 Hours, you enjoy an optional afternoon activity, such as a horse-riding safari within the conservancy, before departing for Nanyuki.

✓ A 1 Day Crossing of the Equator, Mt Kenya animal orphanage visit, & Nanyuki town local markets exploration Tour. Located at the foot of Mount Kenya, Nanyuki offers a mix of geographical education and authentic Kenyan culture.

The tour begins at 0830 hours with a pick up from your hotel in Nanyuki, followed by a short transfer to the start at the Equator Marker. Stop at the official yellow Equator signpost for photographs. Witness the Coriolis Effect water demonstration (water flows clockwise, counter-clockwise, or straight down depending on which side you are on).

Receive a certificate of crossing (optional). After proceeding to the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy to visit the animal orphanage and see rescued animals, including the endangered Mountain Bongo.

After proceeding to Nanyuki Town, visit the Cedar Mall for light shopping or Coffee, or visit local curio shops and the Miti Mayo Craft Shop to buy souvenirs. At 1300 Hours, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Nanyuki, such as Le Rustique, The Croft, or Jib’s Café Bistro.

At 1430 Hours, drive slightly north to see the views of Mt. Kenya and the British Army training grounds, or visit the Nanyuki River area for a short, scenic walk. Later, at around 1700 Hours return to your hotel.

✓ 1-Day Solio Conservancy Tour from Nanyuki takes you to the Solio Ranch (Solio Game Reserve), one of Africa’s most successful rhino-breeding sanctuaries.  Located approximately 35–40 km (roughly 32–45 minutes) from Nanyuki, this conservancy is renowned for sightings of up to 40 rhinos at once and is home to four of the “Big Five”.

The conservancy offers a more exclusive feel with fewer vehicles than larger parks. The tour begins with a 0730 Hours pick up from your hotel or residence in Nanyuki. The drive to the Solio Ranch main gate is a scenic 45-minute journey through the Laikipia plains.

At 0830 Hours, we arrive at the conservancy, then enter and begin a 3-4 hour morning game drive. This is the optimal time to spot both black and white rhinos, as well as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and buffalo.

At 12:30 hours, enjoy a packed picnic lunch at a designated site within the ranch, surrounded by the wilderness, or at the luxury Solio Lodge, where you can watch wildlife from the dining area. 1430 Hours in the afternoon: choose between a second game drive focusing on watering holes or an alternative activity, such as a guided nature walk or horseback safari, for a more intimate encounter with plains game like giraffes and zebras.

At 1630 Hours, we depart from Solio conservancy and begin the return drive to Nanyuki. At 17500 Hours Arrival in Nanyuki and drop-off at your hotel or preferred location in Nanyuki town.

A 1-day safari to Samburu National Reserve from Nanyuki is feasible due to the manageable distance of approximately 140 km (about a 2 to 2.5-hour drive). This excursion allows you to experience northern Kenya’s unique “Special Five” wildlife and rugged landscapes in a single, action-packed day.

The “Special Five” species are unique to northern Kenya and not found in the more famous Masai Mara: Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk (the long-necked antelope), and the Somali Ostrich.

The Big Five: While rhinos are absent from Samburu (they are better seen at nearby Ol Pejeta Conservancy), you have excellent chances of spotting elephants, lions, and leopards.
Landscape: Expect a dramatic, semi-arid environment featuring red earth, doom palms, and views of the Matthews Range.

The tour begins with a 0530 Hours pick-up from your accommodation, followed by a drive north via Isiolo, crossing through the scenic landscapes of Timau and the northern slopes of Mt. Kenya.

Upon arrival at 0830 Hours, we enter Samburu National Reserve (Archer’s Gate) after clearance, and begin a morning game drive focusing on the “Samburu Special Five”: Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and beisa oryx.

We also explore the Ewaso Ng’iro River and visit the riverbanks where elephants, buffalo, and Nile crocodiles are frequently seen drinking or bathing. We then pause for lunch at 1300 Hours to enjoy a packed picnic, dine at a designated site, or dine at a lodge such as Ashnil Samburu Camp or Samburu Simba Lodge.

Later, at 1400 Hours, we enjoyed an afternoon game drive or a visit to the Samburu cultural village. At 1600 Hours, we depart the reserve and return to Nanyuki. At 1800 Hours, we arrive in Nanyuki and drop you off at your residence or hotel.


Hiking, Fishing & Market Tours

✓ 1 Day high-altitude fly fishing trip by helicopter on Mount Kenya National Park to Lake Alice, Lake Michaelson, or Rutundu Lake begins at 0700 Hours with a pick up from your hotel, followed by a transfer to Nanyuki Airstrip or Nairobi’s Wilson Airport for a dawn flight toward the snow-capped peaks of Batian and Nelion.

Upon landing at 0800 Hours, you enjoy a lakeside picnic breakfast at a secluded spot, such as Lake Michaelson or Lake Alice. Begin Fly Fishing, targeting Rainbow Trout in crystal-clear waters.

These remote lakes are known for large fish, with some reaching up to 12 pounds. At about 1030 Hours, you take a short walk to view unique high-altitude vegetation, such as giant lobelias, or explore the nearby Kizito Gorge.

At 1100 Hours depart the mountain as cloud cover begins to settle, arriving back at your base by midday. Note: These trips typically depart from Nairobi or nearby lodges in Laikipia/Nanyuki, providing direct access to high-altitude lakes that are otherwise only reachable via multi-day treks.

✓ 1-Day Nyahururu Falls (Thomson’s Falls) Tour from Nanyuki offers a scenic 1.5- to 2-hour drive through the Kenyan highlands to view the 74-meter waterfall, hike the gorge, and visit nearby attractions such as the Equator Marker.

Day trips typically include transport, a guide, and lunch, often featuring local wildlife viewing or a visit to Panari Resort. The tour begins with a 0800 Hours pickup from your hotel or residence in Nanyuki.

Proceed by road, stopping at the equator Marker for photos and a brief demonstration of the Coriolis effect at the Equator crossing. At about 1000 Hours, arrival at Nyahururu, drive through scenic rural landscapes to the Thomson Falls lodge/viewpoint.

1030 Hours experience as you view the falls from the top, take a guided walk down to the base of the gorge (approx. 1-2 hours), and spot monkeys or baboons. At 1300 Hours, enjoy lunch at the Panari Resort or local restaurants overlooking the gorge. After lunch, you can visit the nearby Hippo Pool or explore the local Nyahururu town market. At 1600 Hours depart for Nanyuki, arriving back in the evening. 

✓ 1-Day Lolldaiga Hills Ranch Tour from Nanyuki offers a unique, exclusive safari experience in a 49,000-acre private wilderness. Located approximately 20–30 km from Nanyuki town (about a 45-minute drive), this conservancy is known for its dramatic landscapes, including cedar forests, open savannahs, and ancient rock art.

The tour begins at 0630 Hours after a pick up from your Nanyuki accommodation. 0730 Hours arrive and check in at Lolldaiga Main Gate, followed by a gamedrive. Expect to see elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and predators such as lions and leopards.

At 1300 Hours, a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint with vistas of Mount Kenya. After lunch, take a short nature walk to see ancient cave paintings on the western edge featuring art from hunter-gatherer communities, or visit the red canyons.

Later in the afternoon, at around 1600 Hours, depart for return to Nanyuki. Other optional activities at the ranch, aside from gamedrive, include guided walks with armed rangers, which offer close-up views of tracks, birds, and flora, and horseback safaris (Unique silent wildlife viewing, often priced separately)

Our 1-Day Mt Kenya hike from Nanyuki typically follows the Sirimon Route, the most popular and scenic option for a short trip, thanks to its gradual ascent and stunning views of the high peaks.

The tour takes approximately 5–7 hours of actual walking time, covering about 18–20 km round trip to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) and surrounding viewpoints. The full experience, including driving from Nanyuki, hiking, lunch, and returning, typically lasts from 0930 Hours to late afternoon. 

The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel at 0630 Hours.  At 0700 Hours, we take a brief stop for photos at the Equator marker. Then we drive to the Sirimon Gate of Mt Kenya (2,650m), arriving at 0745 Hours. We then complete the park entry formalities and registration, and drive to Old Moses Camp (3,300m), arriving at 0800 Hours.

At 0830 Hours, the trek begins, starting from Old Moses Camp, heading toward the Liki North Valley or the Mackinder’s Valley viewpoint. At 1130 Hours, we reach High Point (3,900m). Arrive at a vantage point, such as Liki North Camp or Mackinder’s Valley ridge, for panoramic views of the main peaks.

At 1200 Hours, we enjoy a picnic-packed lunch at the viewpoint or during the descent back to Old Moses Camp. At 1300 Hours we begin the trek back down to Old Moses Camp. 1530 Hours: We return to Old Moses Camp to board the vehicle for the drive back to Sirimon Gate to sign out. At 1700 Hours, we arrive in Nanyuki and drop you off at your hotel or residence. 

Nanyuki Mount Kenya 1 Day Safaris Information

Nanyuki Mount Kenya 1-Day Safaris are action-packed day safaris that begin and end in the Mount Kenya region, which includes towns such as Timau, Nanyuki, Naru Moru, Meru, Nyeri, Mweiga, Nyahururu, and Laikipia.

The tours begin with a dawn pickup from your accommodation to get to the park, not long after sunrise, when animals are most active. On these day trips, you get to visit parks like Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Ngare Ndare Forest, Aberdare National Park, Climbing Mt Kenya, Lolldaiga Hills, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and Samburu National Reserve.

Arriving at the park/ reserve, you check in and embark on an exciting game drive in the untamed bush.  

You spend the morning looking for animals. Early morning, before it gets too hot, is a good time to spot predators on the prowl. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to see some thirsty animals drinking before heading off on the afternoon game drive.

You can see the Big 5, including the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and African buffalo, even in such a short amount of time.  During the game drive, we pause to watch any interesting animal or bird sightings and take photographs. We also stop to stretch our legs and enjoy lunch at the picnic area.

Then we make our way back through the national park, watching for wildlife action along the way. We exit the park later in the afternoon and get dropped off back at your hotel/accommodation early evening, bringing your action-packed day safari to a close.

Our 1-day safaris are conducted in a safari mini-vehicle or 4×4 Land Cruisers (modified closed vehicles with a pop-up roof).  They seat 7 passengers and feature windows that open and close individually.
