Offbeat Mara Camp

Offbeat Mara Camp is a small traditional safari camp situated along the Olare Orok River within the 74,000-acre Mara North Conservancy just north of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

The wildlife in the Mara North Conservancy is blooming, with plenty of resident lion prides (including the Offbeat Pride located near the camp), good elephant numbers, and much more. Additionally, the conservancy is only available to those camps that are situated inside, meaning it is quieter and more exclusive.

The Camp can be reached either by road or by air. The distance from Nairobi to Masai Mara is approximately 250 km. It takes around 5-6 hours by road while flying time takes about 45 minutes.  Scheduled flights land at Musiara airstrip and the transfer time from the Airstrip to Offbeat Mara Camp is a relaxed 1-hour drive.

Offbeat Mara maintains its private homely feel by consisting of only 7 tents.  There are 5 doubles/twins and 2 family tents.  All the accommodation tents are en suite with flush loos and traditional hot safari showers.  Each tent has its own veranda and is carefully positioned to offer wonderful views as well as privacy. 

The heart of the camp is the main ‘mess’ tent with its bar, dining area, sitting room, fireplace, and forest deck.  Guests can also relax in the bar and open lounge which is furnished with comfortable sofas, a writing desk, and a library with wildlife guide books guests can choose from the central coffee table.

Other facilities available at the camp include; 24-hour Security, Bar, Barbeque Facilities, Battery Charging Facilities, Internet Access, Laundry Service, Library, Mobile Connectivity, and a Pool.

Offbeat Mara is conscious that it operates in a fragile ecosystem so it is not a permanent structure and instead, purely canvas, with some local rock and soil to level the base for the tents.

Game viewing is exceptional all year round, but from July to October you will also get to experience the annual wildebeest migration in its hundreds of thousands. The ‘Secret Season’ of January to March is often as rewarding, with clear skies, short grass, and the Loita wildebeest migration coming to Mara North Conservancy. 

Offbeat Mara Camp activities include; Day and evening game drives (until 10 pm), guided bush walks, bush breakfasts, bush dinners, sundowners, and fishing. Other activities include cultural visits (village, market, guiding school), walking safaris with an armed guide, hot air balloon safaris, scenic flights, and visits to the Rhino Sanctuary.
