Ol Pejeta Conservancy Full Day Trip from Nanyuki Itinerary
Our one-day Ol Pejeta Conservancy Safari starts in the Mount Kenya region, which includes towns such as Timau, Nanyuki, Naru Moru, Meru, Nyeri, Mweiga, Nyahururu, and Laikipia. Leaving Nanyuki, we make our way straight to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. A short drive of about 35 minutes brings us to the Rongai Main Gate entrance of the Conservancy.
Arriving at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, we check in and take a brief comfort break before embarking on our exciting game drive in the untamed bush. Entering the park, we make our way, scanning for wildlife, birds, and other creatures.
The scenic Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 90,000-acre (36,000 ha) non-profit wildlife conservancy situated in the foothills of the Aberdare Mountain Range and Mount Kenya. Ol Pejeta Conservancy hosts more than 10000 large mammals and features an endangered species boma, home to rhino species, Grevy’s zebra, and Jackson’s hartebeest.
Wild Animals at Ol Pejeta include Black rhinos, southern white rhinos, and functionally extinct northern white rhinos (the last two northern white rhinos in the world). The park has approximately 300 elephants. The Conservancy features wildlife corridors within its boundaries, enabling movement between Ol Pejeta and the broader Laikipia/Samburu ecosystem.
Large predators – about 67 lions, 30 cheetahs, 20 leopards, and 60 spotted hyenas, as well as a pack of African wild dogs. Smaller predators – black-backed jackal, serval, caracal, and the bat-eared fox. There are hippos, giraffes, baboons, monkeys, aardvarks, and ostriches. Antelopes – Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, impala, Beisa oryx, waterbuck, and eland. Over 300 species of birds.
During the game drive, we pause to watch any interesting animal or bird sightings and take photographs. At midday, we have a light lunch at the park and relax in the shade. A visit to the conservancy includes access to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which was opened in 1993 by the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and the Jane Goodall Institute.
Then we make our way back through the national park, watching for wildlife action along the way. We exit the park later this afternoon and return to Nanyuki, bringing your action-packed day safari to a close.
