Ole Samara guest suites is a guesthouse located off the Nyeri-Nanyuki highway, 37 km from Mount Kenya National Park and 13 km from Braeburn Nanyuki International School. The hotel is located 13 km south of Nanyuki town at the same entrance off the tarmac as the well-known Trout Tree Restaurant.
The guesthouse is built on a 10-acre compound which includes nature trails leading down to the year round Burguret river with lots of indigenous vegetation and prolific bird life. It’s a lovely serene place to relax, reflect, re-energize and enjoy nature.
Ole Samara has six guest suites – Gardenia Suites, Fuchsia Suites, Jasmine Suites, Lavender Suites, Bamboo 1 Suites and Bamboo 2 Suites. Each suite has a private entrance and are uniquely designed and are different from each other with a luxurious high thread count cotton beddings and down duvets. The toiletries are handmade natural organic from Cinnabar Green.
The Gardenia Suite (2 guests) is custom designed with modern amenities and contemporary ideas throughout. It has an outdoor fully equipped kitchen, lovely relaxing area with cushioned benches under the pergola and an outdoor fire place in the courtyard all surrounded by a wall for extra privacy. The bay window has a cushioned seat that can be converted into a sleeping area for two kids or one adult.
The Fuchsia Suite (2 guests) has a farmhouse modern design and can be configured as two single beds or as one king size bed. There are two small bedside tables with lights and a desk with a chair. If you need additional room, this room is best booked with Jasmine suite which is adjacent to it. Fuchsia Suite guests have exclusive access to the fully-equipped separate kitchen if they are interest in self-catering option.
Jasmine Suite (2 guests) has a farmhouse modern design fitted with a queen size bed. There is a nice veranda outside the entrance as well as green space for total relaxation. Jasmine Suite has an indoor fireplace in the bedroom, ample closet space and a desk with chair and lamp for reading or writing. For guests interested in more space this unit is best booked with Lavender suite or Fuchsia Suite.
Lavender Suite (2 guests) is the largest suite and is a studio design with modern amenities and contemporary designs throughout. Inside it has a fully-equipped kitchen, an indoor fireplace in the bedroom with a queen size bed, a small desk and stool for reading or writing, ample closet space, a cushioned bay window seat which can be converted into a sleeping space for a small child, and a spacious bathroom.
Bamboo 1 and Bamboo 2 Suites (2 guests) are located in an adjacent block of two rooms next to the main guesthouse. They have a modern design with queen size bed, ample closet space, a small desk and chair, a refrigerator, microwave, an indoor fireplace and a nice en-suite bathroom. There is a lovely grassy outdoor area for relaxing as well.

Ole Samara is well situated to participate in a wide range of activities in the greater Nanyuki/Laikipia region.
Nature Walk
Nature walk within the Ole Samara property, which includes a trail down to the Burguret river, where one can often see black and white colobus monkeys and a wide range of birdlife. Lots of indigenous trees can be seen on the trail down to and along the river.
Game Drive
Game Drives in nearby private ranches and reserves: Ole Samara is only a 30 min drive to the well known Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where one can often see rhino, elephant, lion, giraffe, buffalo, oryx, zebra, impala, etc. Solio Ranch, which is a private conservancy focusing on rhino conservation, is also nearby. Other nearby wildlife conservancies one can visit include Lewa, Lolldaiga and El Karama.
Walk to the Mau Mau Caves
Hiking to Mau Mau caves in the neighboring Mt. Kenya forest reserve, but a guide would be necessary and it’s about a 5 to 6 hour walk (round trip) from Ole Samara. There a nice waterfalls next to the caves during the rainy season. One could also ride a horse from the nearby Bantu lodge to the Mau Mau caves.
Horse Riding & Golf
There are numerous opportunities to go horseback riding, including among the wildlife within Ol Pejeta and Lolldaiga Hills. One can play golf at the Nanyuki Sports Club or the Mt. Kenya Safari Club.
Mountain Biking
Ole Samara has two mountain bikes available for hire ($10 or KSh 1,000/bike per day). Some great tails nearby in the Mt Kenya forest reserve is easily accessible from Ole Samara.
Fishing
There is trout in the Burguret river on the Ole Samara property and there are many other great places for trout fishing.
Visit Ngare Ndare Forest
Ngare Ndare Forest is a lush indigenous forest at the foothills of Mt. Kenya. Azure pools glisten at the bottom of waterfalls and 200 year old trees stretch into the canopy supporting a rich variety of bird and animal life. The forest is a vital corridor that links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to Mount Kenya, and one which elephants have been using for centuries. One can go on a tree canopy walk, swim in pools near a lovely waterfalls and game drives.
Chartered Plane or Helicopter
Chartering a plane or helicopter: one can charter a plane or helicopter from Tropic Air for day trips to visit Lake Turkana, fly around Mt. Kenya or visit private game reserves. Tropic Air is located at Nanyuki Airstrip, where Safari Link, Air Kenya and some other airlines fly to as well. The airstrip is only a 5 minute drive north of Ole Samara.
Hiking
Hiking on Mt Kenya: it’s possible to enjoy day hikes or multi-day hikes climbing Mt Kenya.
Climbing Mt. Kenya
Use Ole Samara as a base for climbing Mt. Kenya either on the Naromoru or the Sirimon route.
Eating Out
Enjoy some great food at nearby restaurants: one can easily walk to the well-known Trout Tree Restaurant, which is located next to Ole Samara. Some other great restaurants nearby include Barney’s at the airstrip (good for Italian food and pizzas), Frontiers Cafe ( opposite the airstrip), Soames, Le Rustique, Cape Chestnut and Kongoni Camp.
