Pink Container One Bedroom Cottage Masai Mara

Pink Container Cottage is a self-catering budget accommodation located on Kobi Farm – a sustainable eco-farm near Nkoilale on the Talek River, bordering the Ol Kinyei Conservancy, just a 15-minute drive from the Sekenani main gate of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

The solar-powered one-bedroom container cottage is set in its own small private garden within the farm (Kobi Farm) near Nkoilale. It comprises of an open plan lounge and self-catering kitchen, double bedroom, bathroom, and outside seating areas. The Pink Container cottage sleeps 2 guests in 1 bedroom (has 1 bed and 1 bath) and is constructed out of a recycled 10,000-litre water tank and recycled shipping container.

The cottage offers road/ air transfers to the Maasai Mara and game drives. The cozy bedroom contains a queen-size (5×6′) double bed, wardrobe, and mosquito net while the kitchen has a full gas oven, fridge freezer, toaster, and all the other utensils and cutlery you should need during your stay.

The bathroom comprises a solar-heated hot water shower, flush toilet, and sink with hand soap and body wash provided. Outside there is a small BBQ grill, you just need to come with your own briquettes/charcoal, as well as a fireplace area where we will light you a bonfire in the evenings when it’s dry if you would like.

The cottage comfortably sleeps 1-2 guests in a double bed, for small groups or families of up to 4 guests we can also provide a large dome tent with twin camp beds and beddings in the garden for an additional cost. The farm is fully electric fenced and has local Maasai security at night to keep you safe and sound throughout your stay.

The farm has been designed and built from day one with the concept of being eco-friendly, sustainable, and having an as minimal impact as possible on the environment. The house is built on 11-acre property comprised of 6 acres leading to the Talek River which we have left wild and unfenced for the natural environment to evolve.

Eland, Zebra, Jackals, Warthogs, Elephants, and giraffes are regularly spotted passing through since on the other side of the river is the Ol Kinyei Conservancy. The farm is home to dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, sheep, cows, and bees providing milk, eggs, meat, and honey. There is a  vegetable garden where with seasonal fruits and veggies. 

Water is all harvested from rainwater and stored in tanks, we also have a large water catchment reservoir on the property which provides a habitat for aquatic wildlife including terrapins, small fish, and kingfishers. The power and hot water all come from solar, our septic system uses a biodigester and the camp uses animal manure to cultivate our trees, fruits, and vegetable gardens.

There are over 400 trees, shrubs, and flowers on the property and 10 bee hives providing a safe home for thousands of bees. There are lots of activities available in the Maasai Mara including game drives, traditional BBQ, hot air ballooning, horse riding, Maasai village visits, local homestay, sundowners, nature walks, and bush camping inside the Maasai Mara.
