Rufiji River Camp Nyerere Game Reserve Tanzania offers pocket-friendly accommodation in Nyerere National Park formally Selous Game Reserve, near the Mtemere gate. Rufiji River Camp enjoys an enviable location high up on the banks of the Great Rufiji River. The lodge is a 45-minute flight from Dar es Salaam, making it very accessible and perfect for a Tanzania safari.

Built by local craftsmen, the Camp combines Makuti palm roofs with Selous-sourced paving stones and farmed hardwoods to create a beautiful and comfortable accommodation from which to enjoy the Selous Game Reserve.

Spectacular sunsets are chorused by hippos grunting and a plethora of bird songs. Selous Game Reserve is dominated by the Great and Sprawling Rufiji River, so what better place to stay than right along the banks.

Rufiji River Camp Nyerere Game Reserve Tanzania consists of 14 en-suite thatched-roof tents; 11 classic tents and 3 suites. Each tent has a verandah and the suites have plunge pools.

The 11 individual classic tents are all pitched underneath thatched roofs with massive verandas giving views up and well-spaced along the river bank. Each tent has an en suite bathroom, with solar-heated water for showering.

The 3 suites – each with 2 large tents on a shared platform with a private plunge pool. Each tent has its own stylish bathroom. The suites are ideal for families or friends wanting some extra space and privacy or the extra touch for a special anniversary or honeymoon.

The main area is paved with stone and large thatched structures, giving the lodge a more permanent feel than other tented camps in the reserve.  Some soft furnishings offer a good place to relax and enjoy the views of the Rufiji River.

There is an onsite restaurant and a bar. The restaurant and the bar are built with a focus on the river views and wildlife. Al fresco dining lit by starlight, private dinners along the river bank, or that end-of-the-evening coffee sipped from the depth of a sofa in the upper-level coffee lounge.

The shaded swimming pool is a great way to cool off between safari activities. The river of the lodge is alive with hippos and crocodiles and also attracts a large number of elephants to drink.

Activities available from the camp include; Game Drives, Bush breakfast, Game Walks at Rufijis, Boating safaris in flat-bottomed boats & Swimming. There is also the option of fly-camping for a few nights.
